*Warden, Federal Penitentiary at Leavenworth, KS 1928 to 1931
In 1931 White was taken hostage, shot & seriously wounded in an escape attempt by 7 inmates.
All the hostages were released except the Warden. The inmates had guns & the Warden was shot as they crossed the lawn outside. Three inmates were killed & never made it out. The other inmates were captured later in a manhunt. The whole event is what led to the Union Station Massacre some 18 months later.HJ, wasn't he saved by an inmate or group of inmates during this. I may be thinking of someone else.

I've seen this book (thought it was new) but haven't read it yet. I seem to recall there was a connection with White to that case but don't know the particulars. He solved the Osage Indian murders, at least a couple of them. An excellent read.

BB, I like the hat he's holding, sitting in the chair.Henry Andrew "Heck" Thomas, U. S. Deputy Marshal, one of the men known as 'The Three Guardsmen' who brought down the Doolin gang. Thomas lay in an unmarked grave until the 70's when a Lawton, OK police officer took it upon himself to raise the money for a proper marker.

I'm not familiar with Chris Madsen...need to research him.I had to post that one. Reminded me a bit of a hat a fellow received not long ago w/o the curled brim.
