Another thread made me think about Fred Bear. Don't think I've seen this fedora wearer here before.

Yeah Baby!!
Been thinking the same thing. Was wondering if his brim would interfere with the draw. Just alittle “Brim up for Bob” will do. That man could hunt. Remember an old “flick”(that’s what we called them), of him stalking and popin a grizzly. Good stuff DD. Thanks man.

Yes, indeed, a man that truly lived the "Old West". Not a well-polished writer but a fascinating storyteller, and always willing to share his opinions ;). He's probably one of the gentlemen responsible for my love of big-bore firearms. Some folks who read his stories accused him of embellishing them, but those that knew him best vouched for his honesty. He and Theodore Roosevelt are two men I would most like to travel back in time to meet.

That's hilarious! I found that image on the net one night and almost stole it for my avatar, because it's the perfect stereotype picture of the Appalachian hillbilly... Not knowing where it originated or who it actually was a picture of, though, I decided instead to use another famous hillbilly!

Yup...Elmer, Jack, TR and Roy did it for me too!! Still do.

Jack was a better writer and told some neat stories too, although I never was as much a fan of his "small fast bullet" cartridges. I still have a huge amount of respect for him. I have a copy of his autobiography, "Horse and Buggy West", that I treasure. I read it in the high school library (!) as a young teen, and years later searched for quite some time to find an affordable copy of my own.

I would give a fortune to hear the conversations Jack and Elmer are having over their celestial campfire!

You see it frequently but I don't think I've ever seen it attributed to a photographer. It frequently gets thrown in with the work of Doris Ulmann, because of the subject matter I suspect. I've enlarged it to study it & believe it's modern & not vintage, but I could be wrong.

A guy on one of the pipe forums uses it as his avatar.
