The travelling 59 Lark went to Niagara falls, on friday followed a stout dutchman, who proceded to fly in his 12 passenger van, 401 , 403, alexander park way, and the queensway. What a wild ride with chest pains, and when we arrived at marine land , the comment was well you know I SLOWED DOWN for you, i only went 80 miles an hour. After this horrendous trip down, i realized i really am fifty years behind. This highway , ramps, overpasses are not for me.The family of course wanted to see the falls, 20 dollars for parking and never saw so many foreign visitors all wanting to see the falls. The thing is, you know that jimmy stewart , alfred hitchock movie vertigo, I COULDNT GO closer to the falls than 6 feet to the fence. I FROZE, the sheer force, the power overwhelmed, now I have been right up to tornadoes, been there when someone cleared a twelve gauge in the sky, to get moving, done things with cars that would make you wet in the front seat, but the falls. MY friend that fought in vietam and saw horrible things , told me that he also had the same feelings, and he has been shot at and wounded and he also felt the power of the falls. The way home, we took the highway that was the highway before the modern roads were built, it took a extra hour maybe but it sure was peacefull and much more enjoyable. NOW I KNOW HOW JIMMY STEWARTS CHARACTER FELT 59LARK

"On October 24 1901, 63-year-old Michigan school teacher Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to go over the Falls in a barrel as a publicity stunt; she survived, bleeding, but virtually unharmed. Soon after exiting the barrel, she said, "No one should ever try that again."

I was just at the Falls again about 3 years ago. It's simply sublime, but yes, utterly overwhelming. The American side is a bit more rustic and less built up. You can get very close to the river right above the American Falls. But it's the Canadian side that's the real show. 80% of the water goes over the Canadian, or Horseshoe Falls. The ground shakes, the sky roars. There is a mysterious urge to just throw yourself over the edge and be one with the mighty surge. It's an overwhelming feeling.
If you go, make sure you go to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, on the Canadian side at the mouth of the Niagara River, where it pours out into Lake Ontario. It's one of the most beautiful, elegant, charming, classy wonderful litte resort towns on the planet. Exquisite.

thank you for agreement of its power.

Thank you to everyone that agrees with me that the sheer power of this force on earth is something else. The feeling was something else, and you know what really flipped was some tourist taking pictures climbing up on the fence, and not just in the spot where there was some land but on a fence that had nothing but a sheer drop . Just watching them goof for photos sent willys , one wrong move and oops.

Once when i last visited the falls, I went too niagara on the lake and the fort up there and I do recommend these sights. Niagara on the lake is quite pretty and I remember when i went three tours buses of japanese tourist.

Anybody here have the veritigo thingy, that is the only comparison that could give. 59Lark.

Should have gone that way in the first place. Better to arrive at your destination safe and sane. Old highways are the only way to travel.
