Here's a Campaign hat said to be from WWI period. It's size tag is very similar to those in our Emko fedoras, so our Emkos might possibly date roughly to the WWI period, or late 1910's. This Campaign hat is listed on eBay right now.Emko fedora, 3 1/2 inch brim after curl, 6 inch open crown. Posted on New Hats and Waiting For. Seems pre 1930. Feels like Nutria. Randall has basically a twin to this hat.
Anybody know much about old Thoroughbred Hats?
Circa 1930 Penney's Marathon "Carlsbad" western. Fur felt with leather sweatband. Size 7-1/4. 7-1/2" crown, 4-3/8" brim, 1-1/2" grosgrain ribbon. Pre-1934 union label.
That is one impressive hat Jesse. Even though Langenberg/ Beaver has been around over 100 years…. I don’t too often see examples of theirs stuff say pre 1950s. That is a great find sir.Anybody know much about old Thoroughbred Hats? This is an old velour one I got this past week. When it arrived, it was badly crushed and the oval was a bit wonky because of that. I felt it was best to reblock it the best I could with the blocks I had available without changing the character of the hat too much. Luckily it went fairly well! It came with this beautiful horsehair band as well. Originally sold by "The Denver" or Denver Dry Goods Co. it appears. tagged 7 3/8 but shrunk down quite a bit. The sweatband is super thin! Like paper! Yet still supple. I've never felt anything like it before!
8" crown by 4" brim

Happy to bump the thread but boyy did you show me up with those Marathon posts. Holy Cow! Amazing.Great hat Jesse! Thoroughbred was part of the Langenberg family of brands. That’s about the oldest one I’ve seen.

Hey thank you my friend! I must agree- theres a lot of 50s & onward floating around out there with Lagenberg brands. I was surprised to find this hat. Never really seen any Thoroughbreds of this age in any catalogs or on here for that matter. Im excited. Appreciate it!That is one impressive hat Jesse. The girl whose photo is on the liner of your hat looks to me like the same girl whose photo appears promoting a hat in White and Davis catalog #32, of 1928 I think, which has hats made for that company by Stetson. See attached photo. Don't know if she was a famous movie star such as Mary Pickford or what.I'd forgotten about this thread -- and I even posted to it not long ago. Thanks for asking about it Mike and pointing us back to it Bama and Jack.
Thought I'd better archive a couple here.
Western from Montgomery Ward (late 1920s). The "Round Up" model. 7-1/2" crown, 5" brim. It doesn't fit me (like advertised), but does fit my wife. Although she is a bit intimidated by it.
A screen printed Pin-Up?
