A rare beauty for sure
Thanks, Joe.

You know, I’ve read in medical journals that the best placebos are hats in 61cm or 62cm with 6.5cm or larger brims. I’m just thinking of you.
:) Thanks for thinking of me, Brent! Nothing like the real deal of course, but in these troubled times I have to make do with anything I can get my hands on.

Another one that came in the same batch.
Furtex homburg in black. Probably of unknown manufacture (the sweatband seems fragile, so I didn't want to keep peeling at it. The label is in English, but the liner says Marque deposé. Its styling makes me think it could be French. Size 58, with very generous proportions for a homburg: brim at 6,5cm and crown 11cm at the center dent. Lovely hand to the felt and the thin brim binding which is not a common feature for European hats.

I love the blue tones on that hat, Stefan. Looks like an excellent hat.

I'm waiting for close to a month now for some hats to arrive from overseas. Seems like they are kept in quarantine by customs and I could do with a little pick me up. Bought these hats as a placebo, because they are not my size, but what a placebo it is!
First one: Borsalino Azoico, which is a bluish grey. Qualitá Suprema, size 58 with the bound/raw brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Lightweight hat with just 90 grams on the scale. Apart from the quite rare colour it has another unique feature (its sibling has the same feature, so not completely unique), which is the extremely narrow brim binding on just the underside of the brim. Unreeded too, which I didn't expect for a hat of this age. Early to mid-sixties, which is quite early for a suprema quality hat.

This showed up today. Montecristi / Granite combo Duplex. It has a 1/2" over welt with 5 rows of stitching. The ribbon looks even better than I thought it would.

Second one: Borsalino Agave, which is a colour that eludes me in my colourblindness (beige with green and mustard tones?). It's the first time we've seen one of this colour. Also Qualitá Suprema, size 58 with the bound/raw brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Lightweight hat with just 92 grams on the scale. Apart from the very rare colour it also has feature its sibling has, which is the extremely narrow brim binding on just the underside of the brim. Unreeded as well, unexpected for a hat of this age. Early to mid-sixties, which is quite early for a suprema quality hat. I like it when I find one in a colour I haven't seen before. I hope my hats when they come in are just as good (I think they will be).

It is seemingly invariable that whenever I find a two-for or a three-for deal that there is one in the group I had my eye on as the reason for the purchase... however upon arrival a different hat turns out to be the real star. In this case... I had my eye on the brown Knox Flying Cloud as I have a grey one I really like and thought it would be a good companion. After arrival though it became apparent the hat I thought From the sellers photos was just another short brim black hat was actually the star of the show.

Charles Knox Hatter
Charcoal Grey with brownish undertones
5 inch as bashed crown
2 inch grosgrain ribbon
2 1/8 brim with custom edge (Cavanagh edge)
Very cool Charles Knox Double Eagle hat pin

both hats were purchased from Jacob Reed’s Sons in Philadelphia, PA and both had an original retail price of $30 marked down to $15. My guess on these two hats would be late 1960s or early 1970’s.

I am not sure if the feathers will remain on this one... though in this photo they actually look nicer than I had thought. I think I did trim some of it off upon arrival.
