Stetson No. 1 Quality with a single ply ribbon. The felt is in great shape and has a good hand; not quite up to vintage 3X standards but beats the modern felts by a wide margin! Out of the box, it needs a good steaming, cleaning, and recreasing. The sweatband is brittle and torn and will have to be replaced, unfortunately. The size tag suggests late 50s or early 60's but is that consistent with the red liner? The liner is also glued in rather than sewn but I have no way to know if this was standard to this level of hat or if it has been through a cleaning and refurb at some point in its life. This is one of those hats with very little other markings. In fact, all it has is the 6-digit reorder no (?) stamped on the inside of the sweat, that's it.

Those old skinny ribbon hats are some of my favorites. Yours looks great and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Are you going to do the sweatband replacement yourself?

Very nice find, Joe. I have the exact same hat. I don't care much for the backbow style for myself though and had it changed.

Thanks Stefan. It has a look and feel very similar to my black Dobbs I posted a few days ago.. so I’m very happy with it. I also prefer the more traditional side bow.. however I don’t have any other back bow hats so that makes it different. Which makes it cool to me.

Templeform by Stylepark - Genuine Italian Velour

Now for something completely different.... so somewhat anyway. Who says drinking and EBay don’t mix... This Stylepark Templeform in a rich chocolate brown Italian velour for a mere 4 dollars disagrees. Most of these petable felts are adorned with a corded hat band. This one has its own very unique band. From the seller’s pictures I was pretty sure the birds nest of a hat feather would have to go. But I was very surprised to find hidden under that mess a very cool metal ram pin/decoration. It Really gives this hat some personality.

Under the sweatband I found a newspaper clipping from the New York daily news dated Tuesday February 3, 1966. Featuring a headline of Get Rich Quick in City Housing... a photo of a fireman escaping a 4th story blaze and a photo of Jacqueline Kennedy. This clipping goes along with the styling cues enough that I would guess mid 1960s age for this hat.

My newest arrival Montgomery Ward Dunderry. This hat is stunning with its dark blue felt.. tremendous proportions. The seller had indicated a 2.5 inch brim... but I am very happy with the 2 1/4 it actually is.. I think it works perfectly on this hat. Hard to reproduce the color of this hat as it changes drastically depending on the light. I think I came close here.. There is nothing not to love about this hat.. from its color.. it’s bow.. it’s shape and the feel of the felt. Maybe a little staining on the liner and sweat. I am very impressed with and excited about this hat.

Just arrived. A new to me XXX Resistol Roper. I was a bit nervous about the size (as I usually am buying online) but it’s a good fit and I’m very happy with it. You don’t see many of these around in Japan and my wife says she might not walk with me if I wear it. Wear it, though, I will!

Nice! I like to mix in westerns into my rotation too, in fact, it’s getting to the point where I mix in fedoras into my western rotation.

I'm waiting for close to a month now for some hats to arrive from overseas. Seems like they are kept in quarantine by customs and I could do with a little pick me up. Bought these hats as a placebo, because they are not my size, but what a placebo it is!
First one: Borsalino Azoico, which is a bluish grey. Qualitá Suprema, size 58 with the bound/raw brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Lightweight hat with just 90 grams on the scale. Apart from the quite rare colour it has another unique feature (its sibling has the same feature, so not completely unique), which is the extremely narrow brim binding on just the underside of the brim. Unreeded too, which I didn't expect for a hat of this age. Early to mid-sixties, which is quite early for a suprema quality hat.

Second one: Borsalino Agave, which is a colour that eludes me in my colourblindness (beige with green and mustard tones?). It's the first time we've seen one of this colour. You know, I’ve read in medical journals that the best placebos are hats in 61cm or 62cm with 6.5cm or larger brims. I’m just thinking of you.
