I believe he was well known for wearing them, when he was vacationing in the Wisconsin Dells. Or after tubing the Apple River.I wonder if Al Capone ever wore red flannel...uhh, see?
Michael, Thank you! That hat is just too cool for words. What a great find.

Good eyes... it's an older picture. I have a couple of stretchers. I don't believe the wooden one is brand marked. The metal one is a Garvé. I use the latter more for working on hats - the wooden one for display, mostly.
That's a real beauty Anthony. What age do you put that at?courtesy of my not so secret weapon Adrian ...
this beautiful heathered felt Hardeman "Mainliner"
The felt is just wonderful but my favorite part of this hat is the sweatband ... just such quality.
... I hate when people tack the wind trolley button to the ribbon.... aaargh!!! ... I'll deal with that at some point

Beautious catch there, Anthony!! I believe that button style was the ticket in the late 30's, early 40s. It's original to the hat. I vote to leave it, but it's your hat.courtesy of my not so secret weapon Adrian ...

Hm... not seeing how that is possibleLooks Great moon . I heard that some Hats had the button attached , and the cord hooked to your button on a jacket . Not sure if thats true , but it sounds reasonable .
Hm... not seeing how that is possible
But I hope it is original to the hat
I'd like to hear more about this if anyone has any info

Hardeman was a west coast manufacturer based in Seattle from the early years of the century closing in 1953. The original factory is still standing in Seattle, it is now gentrified with fancy pants upscale businesses. I found ads in a couple of newspapers from 1949 touting the Magic Fit.

I'm hoping one of the more knowledgeable folks will help out here... what was this type of wind cord set up called, and wasn't it used differently?
Yes, it's a variation. My Imperial Stetson is configured this way.

Two of my Daltons, the only ones with trolleys, are this configuration.
Great pick up, Anthony. You're on a heather run of late.
Sent directly from my mind to yours.
