Stetson One Hundred with wide ribbon and mode edge brim in my collection. Thought I'd post this for reference. Color is dark brown. Ribbon is 2 inches wide. Brim is also 2 inches. Open crown is 5 inches. Looks like circa 1960's with square paper size tag. There is also white paper price tag saying $100.00. Felt is heavy, thick and soft for brim and crown. There is no stiffness at all in the brim too. According to the seller who is in Brooklyn, he was given this fedora by an elderly lady in his apartment building for free.

Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik "Turf", Weather - Proof, Crown Open 5 1/2, Brim 2 1/2 inches, 55cm probably later 1930s. I have been looking for a B.G.H. hat for a long time. Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik was the largest hat factory (Wool and Fur Felt divisions) in Germany but didn't survive WWII. I think they must have sold mostly non branded hats to distributors, whole sellers and large retail establishments. The mixed color felt on this hat is really extraordinary. Also great form and interesting Bow and Over Welt This is now one of my favorite hats even though I can't wear it. What is interesting is this hat was distributed by Friedrich W. Schneider Köln (still in business today and own Stetson Europe) for Jung Augsburg (also still in business today).

That is a beauty. Almost makes me want to spend a rainy day at the horse races picking the best mudders.

Steve, that is certainly a winner. love everything about it (with some luck it might even fit me too). I'm not usually a big fan of overwelt brim finishes, but this one has superb detail. Was there not still hat manufacture in Guben in the DDR days, or was that a different place ?

Thanks again! It's really tiny (more like 54cm) so it will be a display piece.

During the DDR everything was consolidated (Guben sustained major war damage) VEB Vereinigte Hutwerke Guben which lasted under a different name into the 1990s.

Remnants of B.G.H ended up in Kassel after WWII and later Recklinghausen.

I have been searching for a thread covering hats from scandinavian countries, but I haven't found one, so I'll post this one here. Danfelt brown heather felt, longhair finish (quite coarse), size 56, overwelt brim 6 cm, crown 10 cm at the pinch. No liner, crown patch which must have had a onion skin covering as there are still traces of it. Felted ribbon. I shaped this one differently from it original deeply dented teardrop shape, which gave it a very low crown. I think I have only three hats from scandinavian countries and this one is the only one I think that was actually made there. Others can shed more light on the scandinavian hatting industry perhaps.

Steve, thanks. I knew I had seen the Guben name somewhere: saw a hat by VEB recently but didn't bring it with me, but it looked a pretty decent hat (maybe I'll see if it's still there).

This one is a bit more interesting than the Danfelt hat and is certainly a much better quality hat. King Felton in grey, size 56, brim 5,7 cm overwelt, crown 10 cm at the pinch. Lined. Alf W. Goodwin, 7. Storgaten 7, Oslo (Norway) on the liner and sweatband. It does state King Felton import on the sweatband, so likely not made in Norway. Alf W. Goodwin was actually born as Alf Thoresen in 1891 but changed his name to Goodwin when he emigrated to America in the early 20th century. He returned to Norway however in 1920, probably because of the death of his wife (records are unclear about that). He kept the name. The connection to America and the straight welt on the liner leads me to believe the hat may have been made in the US (the label is in Norse though). Splendid hat wherever it came from.

Fabulous colors in that felt! It really should be a 60cm!

Another binge buy. A rather interesting modern straw by Dobbs. A Florentine "Milan" in two tone with a nice pug. Nothing earth shattering, but kind of a nice kick around straw. The colors are about right in the images. I kinda like it, fake Milan and all. Probably not old at all. Nice leather sweat though. View attachment 73742 View attachment 73743 View attachment 73744
That Florentine milan, from a purely practical standpoint, is unbeatable. I bought one a few years ago specifically to have a hat to wear when I took my kids to Disneyworld for a week. It has since seen numerous trips to the river and endured gallons of central Alabama humidity, and it still looks like I just pulled it out of the box new. I was put off at first by the plastic-y feel of it, but quickly grew to appreciate the resilience of it. It's a go to hat for me in the heat of the summer now.
