Alan, that is some serious liddage. My new derby cowtows at its feet! Well done!
I could not keep my hands off this Mallory in antique shop this morning. It's almost identical to the one I used to have in a larger size. It's also another point of support to my hypothesis that wearing a derby one size smaller than what I normally wear in fedoras is the secret recipe for me.

Hello Joao..."winner" of that hat would be a rather strong word going in the wrong direction....unless you had the midget that goes along inside that hat....
Maybe I chosen the words wrong.
I would wear that hat even if it is 1 size too large. No midget needed ;)

Ample dimensions - 5 3/4 block (crown height measures about 5.5"), 2 3/16 brim. Note early real nutria fur logotype... the nutria became much more beaver-like in subsequent versions. Age uncertain - 20s at latest but perhaps a decade or two earlier. Retail tag shows $6. MLR opened their Chicago store in 1907.
Sweet one! And I'm not a fan of derbys.

Alan, I love that derby! I've always liked the taller derbies, but that hat takes the cake! It looks great on you.

Bowlerman, Nice Mallory derby. I'm still trying to find a vintage derby that fits well, especially one as nice as Alan's. I'm just the opposite of you when it comes to sizing, I have found that I need to go up a size from my fedoras to get a derby to fit well.

I know some people have a downer on custom hats, but here in the UK it is hard to get hold of vintage, especially with the shipping costs and customs charges. Here is my latest from Advintage. Thomas is primarily an 'Indy' hat maker, but recently he got hold of some amazing beaver felt that I couldn't resist having one made in a more film noir style fedora:

Thanks. It is a little unusual, but it really produces the profile I wanted. I normally go for diamond bashes, but I already had a steel grey with that bash so wanted something similar but different.

I do wonder if I have too many hats. I'm now getting to the point of having hats in the same colour with different bashes, where as before I just looked to get hats in different colours. I'm worried I might be going too far. at least I'm still at the point where all my hats get head time, with some more than others.

I guess I should ask this in another thread, but how many hats is too many?...

I am having the same issue.
There is no such thing as too many! :D

I'm up to 13 with 3 more on the way, but I've procured and released 40 other hats. I'm finally to the point where I'm feeling that the hats I pick up now will stay in the collection. I can get up to 22 before I have to start reconfiguring shelf space...
