My this weekend find.Borsalino 5 1/2" open crown,1 3/4" brim.It has a unreeded sweatband and a wind cord.Also a Cavanagh edge.I usally don't wear the stingy brims,but felt is so nice on this one I'm going to wear it.

Nice find Dogman - it's nice to have a choice of brim widths even if you have a favourite size.

Yes I think your right. I'm not going to limit myself to the wide brims.Even though I usually stick to the 2 1/2" to 3" brims.

GEEZ! Where are you guys finding these hats, other than ebay, that is. I only came across a couple nice finds, but nothing like some of you guys are coming up with. Nice find DOGMAN. I've been wanting to buy a vintage Whippet or a Stratoliner in a 7 1/8 LO but I can't afford the ebay prices.

This shot shows the one major flaw on the first gray hat. There is what looks like a felt tip pen mark right on the front. Does anyone know if a little naptha will take care of that?

Just grazing, but when I was a grocery clerk we used to use hairspray to remove marking pens & other ink. Cheap stuff works best, like Rave pressurized cans. It may take a few applications & blotting. I haven't tried this on felt, but it worked wonders on white cotton blend shirts.

I've used Zippo lighter fluid to remove felt-tip marker writing from a felt hat...close to naptha....HTH

+1 on zippo lighter fluid. I have worked with markers most of my adult life (I do pre-production artwork for television and commercials). 9 times out of 10 this will get it out. soak and blot with a dry cloth or sponge. You can also try a colorless blender that you can find in the marker section of your local art supply store. There are water based markers out there for kids as well, if it's one of these spray the area with distilled water and blot with a dry cloth or sponge. You may have to do this a couple of times. Beware there is an outside chance this could lighten the color around the area. Always experiment first if possible.

Thank you. This did not receive much action in it's first time around... the seller was happy to accept the reserve price. There were some very nice velours from the same source that did not receive much bidding attention.

Alan, great Borsalino! It must be great landing a hat that is so "new". I kind of imagine this was the last hat this guy purchased before hanging up hats for good. Or he had a lot in rotation and took very good care of them.

Thank you. Actually, the owner passed away about 50 years after purchasing this hat. He was an Italian American jurist and I expect that he wore hats for many years. I am quite fussy on condition when buying used hats. I am fortunate to have choices in my size.
