peacoat dating--10 button front.

I've just acquired a vintage US Navy peacoat, with a 10 button front. It doesn't have flapped pockets, but the regular slash pockets; it also has the fouled anchor buttons without stars. Its designed to button both directions.

My guess is that this is likely WWII vintage but any help would be very useful.

And, yes, I have read the peacoat threads!

I have read the Guide--it was very helpful, and clarified that I have a pre-1947 coat!

Actually, the Guide ought to tell you that your coat is 1945 or before.

Edit Note: Well actually it doesn't come out and say that the coats with 8 buttons showing (total of 10) are 1945 or before. It does call them WWII coats and says, "At some point after the war, the peacoat underwent a major change. The number of buttons showing on the front of the coat changed from eight to six." (emphasis added) The war was over in 1945, so the production of the WWII peacoats ceased in 1945. I guess I should have said, "At some point shortly after the war . . . ." I believe the new style started with the 1946 contract.

In the example of tags I gave, I notice that the WWII tag and the "1947 and before" tag are the same. Evidently the manufacturer had some WWII tags left over and used them in 1947. But it is easy to distinguish between the two because the body style is different.
