Pasteur Pharmacy in NYC

Any man who touches a razor needs to visit Pasteur Pharmacy on 34th street just west of Park Avenue.
It's an old school pharmacy with narrow aisles and an impressive selection of men's shaving products.

Considering the location and our tendency to replace real shops with another un-necessary bank or some generic coffeeshop, it is refreshing to walk into the kind of pharmacy where your dad might have taken you as a kid. Pasteur's is the real deal. Tall shelves stocked with product. Last Friday I treated myself to shaving creams and am looking forward to going back for more.

I would suggest visitors to NYC include a stop at Pasteur's. You will not walk out without a shaving cream or aftershave.

Feel free to post other hidden gems in the city or elsewhere. Continued business is the key to keeping businesses viable.

There's another Pasteur Pharmacy location on the UES where just a stones throw away lies Cambridge Pharmacy, not quite the selection but just as old school and with much wider aisles. Seriously, Pasteur makes me feel like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs. :p

Never been to Cambridge Pharmacy but I've been meaning to go.
Pasteur on 34th has narrow aisles but the uptown one is even narrower! :eusa_doh:
For the selections they offer I'll gladly suffer a bit of claustrophobia. lol ;)

Bump for a great shop!

I am heading there today for a pack of razor blades. Which means I'll probably walk out with blades, shaving cream, and cologne.

It looks like Pasteur carries more shaving equipment than the last time I was there.
I noticed more DE razors, blades, strops and shaving cremes.

I work very near there, but haven't been inside. I am loyal to Bigelow's Bay Rum-scented shaving balm, but they've been out of it for months (they say they're redesigning the package or something, but honestly, it's been months), so I'll have to stop in at Pasteur to see if they have anything for me.

My birthday is coming up and I've been craving a lime scented after shave. I stopped at Pasteur's today and treated myself to a bottle of St. Johns West Indian Lime. A wonderful scent!

I go to Pasteur's with some regularity (they carry my preferred hair goop), and hoo-boy, is it a tough store to browse. If you don't know exactly where the product you're looking for is (and they seem to move stuff around pretty frequently), you'll spend the entire time you're there dodging employees and other customers who are trying to squeeze by.

That is one cramped emporium.

Have you been to their uptown location? That one has narrower aisles than mid-town!
Both locations carry an un-believable stock of shaving supplies.

You have to love those places. Real time capsules. Did you notice that drug store smell???
