Since Pamela has openly admitted that she has hepatitis C I could shout that fact from the mountaintops and I doubt she has any legal cause of action against me.

She has?? That, then is not libellous. I've been out of the loop for a long time when it comes to celebrity gossip. This thread is the closest i've come to actually thinking about it for a while.

I can't remember who said it, but i think calling Paris Hilton a whore is probably libel. Certainly degrading/defamatory and almost definitely false. Therefore libellous. Even with the weak libel laws in the US! I think we'd be hard pressed to prove that she took money for sex. The fact that both of these people are filthy sluts is a different matter. But hey, i was a slut in my youth too. Does it make me a bad person? I think not. I wasn't splashing myself all over the newspapers and making porn (Art?) movies, but a slut nonetheless i was. So to my point: there is nothing bad about the person Paris Hilton (so far as i know; i don't know the woman) but her behaviour leaves a lot to be desired. We mustn't judge the person for the behaviour. We must only judge the behaviour. (they CAN be extricated from each other).

Isn't the point of this Paris Hilton person that she is intended to be an object of ridicule? I never saw The Simple Life, but wasn't it supposed to make fun of Paris Hilton and that other rich twinkie? Aren't they meant to be emperors (empresses) with no clothes? Aren't they part of the non-stop circus sideshow that is the gossip industry?

Maybe I missed something, but perhaps the adulation of Paris Hilton and others like her (the Osbourne offspring, celebrity no-talents like Ashton Kutcher, the Simpson girls and this Carson Daley thingy) is a product of some kind of mass dementia, a problem with our own collective consciousness. Maybe it is true that most of the human race are severely menatally unspectacular and that we get the culture we deserve. If I put dog poop on a plate and called it a t-bone steak you don't have to eat it, unless you're a gormless, gullible, bone-headed semi-idiot. I say file the fame of this person under the P. T. Barnum aphorism, "Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public." And expand his constituency, since there are still place where Michael Jackson is idolized.

Uh, you just blew your argument for libel for Hilton. The connotation of "whore" has several incarnations and does not necessarily involve money. The video of her and her idiot boyfriend might not exactly help her defense. Openly admitting that she is a slut would more than do for using the "whore" word in some people's definiton of the word and therefore would not involve libel but a simple differentiation of the terms. Legally they can be defined however a jury decides fits the case in point. Think about it.
If you were Paris Hilton, would you want all of that stuff brought out in court as evidence? Would it be worth a libel judgement or would the court case do more"damage?"

My good sir, how can we not judge a person but by their behavior? One's behavior is an indictment of their person. What else is there to judge? Their soul? Their mind? We cannot see into ones soul or mind. Behavior is all there is to judge.

Interestingly, many idols have feet of clay. I prefer to keep my father on the top of the list as my vintage idol. :cheers1:
