Paris Hilton: The Death of America

A friend of mine and I were actually having just this kind of conversation some months ago (sometime over the summer) and around that time I found that when Mr. Hilton died, who ironically went by the same nickname as his future great-niece, Nicky, he refused to leave his family a dime. They of course contested the action in court and won his estate... All for naught I say. I believe he had the right idea, he must be spinning like a gyroscope given their actions as of late. My friend also expressed that she felt even worse about Paris Hilton's mother. Their whole family disturbs me.

I also am troubled by this obsession with mob culture. I mean some of it is pretty interesting but if I see another "Scarface" tee shirt I'm going to be sick. It certainly seems to have caught on like a brush fire in the Black community and I see it all of the time. Even down to the Gotti family being followed on television. I don't know who or how many people watch that show (I'm not one of them) but seeing commercials for it at least makes me wonder if this is what the original guys intended. I would never make excuses for their choices but personally I don't even see that sort of lifestyle as necessary. Sure there's always some hard luck case about having to steal to survive but I don't know if it's ever as bad nowadays to constitute that level of thievery.

I need a new name

I am not a fan of celebrity, especially those who walk arounds with their noses in the air and their legs.....well, you know what I mean.
Anyway, I just found an article from about a year ago saying that the ever so lovely Paris Hilton will be playing the role of Daisy Buchanan in an upcoming re-make of "The Great Gatsby" It will also star some young guy from "The OC" (I only know this show because the guy who wrote it is from Rhode Island, and that's where I grew up), and it will be produced by one of those hip hop guys, JayZ or Ludacris, who knows.
Ok, so Daisy Buchanan's character is a little shallow and self absorbed, but that's not why I chose the name. Paris Hilton is no actress, and not worthy of such a role!

Hmmmm... The way you describe Daisy might just fit Paris. Then again I suppose that would not be acting then would it? :p She could even pretend to be married. I think she has done that a few times too. ;)

I love these discussions. Lots of different opinions.

The question has to be: Why do we care what other people do? Personally i couldn't care less about Paris Hilton and her behaviour. She appears no more promiscuous than an awful lot (in fact most) of the other people i know. It's not like she's out there killing people. She's making something of a fool of herself, but isn't that her affair? To my mind she's doing nothing that we should be deriding her for. Some things i wouldn't do, but that's up to her. What, exactly, is wrong with having a ton of boyfriends? What is wrong with making a porn movie? What is wrong with not caring about your promiscuous sex life being detailed in the newspapers? My 'moral compass' sees nothing at all wrong with these things.

Just interested to hear people's views.

...well...
I've missed out on this thread up 'til now but I think Paris is fantastic.
She's uniquely/quirkily beautiful and funny and mean...
Forget the spoilt rich kid routine- she's a smarty, although, in my book, she's not a celeb.
I find her quite appealing from a distance- I wouldn't want to know her though- -eeuuckk!

Brings me to ponder the fact that over the past 30+ years there have been some huge perennial box office male draws like Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, Robert Deniro and several others. Except for, perhaps, Meryl Streep for awhile when every other movie spit out had her in it there have been no strong or even really glamourous actresses. We can't conclude that looks over time are the only factor working against women in Hollywood.

But what do you guys think? I dunno Sharon Stone, Goldie Hawn....who else?

Well, Venereal diseases come to mind real quick. The list is long on that score. I believe that such activates should be held with in the sacred sanctity of marriage. Yes, I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m a Christian and her behavior she?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll have to answer for. If one man can believe in God (What ever form that may be) one can not condone her acts or other celebrity?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s promiscuous acts as being morally OK.

My point of views is toward a straight edge lifestyle but, that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s me. I feel that people gain more respect if they respect their bodies and others. Being a slut or a whore isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t a positive roll model for America. I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m seeing many young girls, in the neighborhood of 12-16 getting a sex life started. The woes it causes them down the road is many. Teen pregnancy?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and abortions are just sad to me. Why take the creation of life so lightly? Just to fulfill a momentary erg?

I just find this as an abomination and feel sad when people look to her for what?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s popular.

Well, there are ways to minimize the risk of contracting disease, but unless you are into actuarial details and can determine the dollar effect on your health insurance rate or your tax bill of venereal disease contracted outside of marriage, I would say that the risk others take in that regard is none of our business. Likewise, if one really believed that "she'll have to answer for" her behavior, then, again, it is none of our business. As for the young - have they no parents? If so, it is, again, none of my business. Now, if they plan to raise the bastards on my tax money, I say we cut 'em off and let 'em starve. Bah! Humbug! Are there no prisons?

?¢‚Ǩ?ìPlenty of prisons,?¢‚Ǩ? said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.....

?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then??¢‚Ǩ? said Scrooge.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìBoth very busy, sir.?¢‚Ǩ?

?¢‚Ǩ?ìOh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,?¢‚Ǩ? said Scrooge. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìI?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m very glad to hear it.?¢‚Ǩ?

Not our business? That mindset is the ruination of society.

I agree with you, Wild Root. Very much so.

The problem is that most people do not understand that the choices of others have an effect on the lives of others. Be it your parents, children, other relatives or friends. They are all effected by the choices of others. If there truly were consequences for our actions like there used to be then the effect on the rest of us would be minimized but for now poor choices drain the resources of our society. Encouraging or turning a blind eye to it simply gives the people carte blanche to do whatever they want and damn the consequences. There should be a safety net but some have learned to turn it into a hammock for all of their lives while continuing down the path that got them there in the first place and perpetuating the problem into the next generation. I will have to see if I can find my J's Ten Things to do in Life that will Guarantee Success in 99% of Cases. Worked for me 100%. :cheers1: ;)

Regards to all,

J
