If y ou have a link, PM it to me if you can not post it in the thread. I have a Blackberry but dont want to use my phone as my calendar. I like the standalone that I had with the Palm Pilot over the paper calendar, and convenience to put it into a suit coat pocket and run out the door. I dont think I need a lot of storage and dont care about pictures or songs or multitasking. Just a way to replace a paper calendar and check for conflicting court dates when in front of a judge. Cheap works for me

Which Blackberry are you using?

By saying you don't want to use your phone I'm assuming you mean you prefer to use Outlook on your PC to input and sync your calendar. All these phones can do that.

Are you using the Blackberry Desktop manager to accomplish your task?

I'm using a Blackberry Storm, it's an alright phone I guess. Nothing to write home about and definately overkill for just managing a calendar. Although it is easy and quick to scan thru several weeks worth of appointments etc.

You can search ebay for 'used ipaq' just saw some nice ones for fifty dollars used that will sync with Outlook.

A used Blackberry Storm working just went for 149.xx

A used Dell Axiom X50v is available still for 99.95

The HP iPaq is the best price I see just casually looking, and are easy enough to navigate.

Although the Blackberry you have should do the trick for you.

Im gonna use my blackberry cd and try to sync the files. I used to use paper calendars and handwriting and changing and then laying it down at court. Got the Palm off ebay for like $45 delivered and for two years, pick it up, run to court and keep it in the pocket of my coat. I guess since I have the fone, try to use it and, well, keep the broken Palm in the drawer in case I need to go back. That would buy me like 2 months to figure out. I guess everything is going to all-in-one. Until December, I had a thermal paper fax maching, laser jet printer and separate scanner. Kept them all in case the big unit I now have gives out.

thanks for the ipaq sugestion. That Axim would be overkill for me

Getting it squared away

Good luck with the software Squire! I hope it works out for you.

Just so you know, either the HP or the Axiom models are the last smartphones made at a decent price. After those are gone then you'll be looking at smartphones going for silly money. Don't wrestle with the BB for too long and miss out. How long they'll be around is anybody's guess.

Let us know how you make out with it.

I knew there was a reason why I like low tech. Came home, and went on the Internet and found the download for Palm desktop manager. Downloaded it and transferred Palm data from the handheld to my laptop computer. Could not synce Palm desktop to Outlook on laptop. Then got the Blackberry CD and downloaded Blackberry desktop manager. Called Sprint and they transferred me 5 or 6 times and each time I had to give my account, pin, and explain the problem again.

So I gave up. Two hours wasted. Will take the CD and try to download it into office computer and then sync Outlook (it works between the Palm and Outlook on the office computer) and see if I can get the Outlook into the Blackberry at the office.

As someone pointed out to me, I sometimes am not at the office and dont carry the Palm so I have to say sometimes, call me tomorrow so I can check my calendar. I can probably start checking it right on the phone, maybe even while I am on a cell call with the Blackberry

I sorta liked having a standalone, non phone calendar. that way, I still have a phone if the calendar craps out, like it is doing now, and vice versa. Until this December, I had a separate thermal paper fax, ink jet printer, copier, and scanner. Now I have an all in one, but kept the others as backup.

Palm / Blackberry

Okay this information culls a lot of the guesswork here.

If the Palm works with the Work PC, let us know if the BB works works as well in the office. IT SHOULD !!!!

By telling you to re-install the Desktop software which in turn will replace files needed for the drivers (on any PC). And it STILL did not work on the home PC. I am thinking your settings on the home PC when it see's the BB connected defaults to 'extended storage mode'.

By this I mean to say that when you connect your BB (at home i.e. the computer it isn't Sync'ing on) you would hear the Microsoft Ta-Dunk sound if your speakers are turned UP, and you will also see one or two windows pop-up (like drive F:\ or drives F:\ and G:\)

When this happens it means that computer see's the BB as an external drive which it can be. But all other BB desktop functions won't work in that mode.

You have to turn OFF the setting called: Mass Storage Support

On your phone go to OPTIONS > MEMORY and turn off Mass Storage Support then plug your phone back into the USB cable then try to connect via the Desktop Manager. If it reads your BB Pin number close out the Desktop Manager and THEN open up your Outlook and open your Desktop Manager once more.

I've had this happen already, and why it isn't a problem on one computer and not the other is beyond me. I didn't write the code for these things. But yes I agree. LOW TECH is the only Tech.

You spent more time reading this than it will take you to make the setting change. Sure Hope it works for you!
