Which would you pick and why? I'm not looking for a tight slim fit jacket so these both should be comparable in size 40. And if anyone has measurements on either in 40/42 please post them. Thanks

My choice would be a long half belt as it has hand warmer and cargo pockets and can be adjusted at the waist.I have a jacket with the vertical chest pockets and I don't find them comfortable or big enough to be useful.

I have and love an Aero LHB. I'm a pretty standard 40 and a size 38 LHB is plenty roomy for me. I could get you measurements for that if you'd like. I find myself wearing the LHB a little deeper into fall and appreciate the hand pockets.

Between the two I'd say Cheyenne, because of the button front. I think button front works better on a longer coat as you can leave the bottom buttons undone for ease of sitting down etc (but then again maybe it's that the Cheyenne is closer to what I just ordered haha)

Measurements would be great when you get a chance Grayland. Though I'm usually more of a 42 which is why I'm aiming 40. No Vicenza or Natural hide. Going with CXL Steer Burgundy or Brown. I just prefer the feel of the steer. And also think it's more consistent from batch to batch. Sometimes the FQHH batches/samples seem to vary widely.

As for button vs zip and mobility, I think the LHB has a fairly high set zipper so I would think helps but definitely not as much as the Cheyenne.

From my limited understanding, I think you might be comparing apples and oranges, and perhaps a better comparison might be between a LHB and a Teamster rather than Cheyenne since the Cheyenne is, I think, designed to be longer and bulkier than the LHB and/or Teamster. Perhaps a better comparison would be between the Cheyenne, Stockman, Barnstormer, Mariner, and maybe Veste Des Rallye?

I recall that when I decided to order a Teamster, the other jacket I considered was a LHB but chose a button closure rather than zipper. I think Dav owns a Cheyenne (and Teamster), and wdw owns a Stockman (and Teamster). Hopefully one or both of those chaps will see this thread and chime in.

Why's that? The weight would certainly be closer to mine from the 40's. For a buttoned one, I'd say sure go thicker...but the longer zipped ones are great in the mid weight hides.

The Cheyenne I have is a very different fit to the Teamster. Cheyenne is a 40 and is still a looser fit than the size 42 Teamster, to my mind the Cheyenne is a coat whereas the Teamster is a jacket, if that makes sense. I assume the LHB would be similar to the Teamster in fit, so as Fanch implied, different things really.

I've got a long Hercules in Black Vicenza, its essentially a LHB just with more style. :cool:

Great jacket, I usually take a size 40 but a 38 in this is perfect...alpaca lined and enough room for another thick layer underneath, I kept the storm cuffs....perfect winter jacket.

The hand warmer plus cargo pockets are great and really useful. I did ask for a removable fur collar but for whatever reason Carrie said it wasn't an option at the time.

I prefer the Vicenza on a longer jacket, its still damn heavy but not quite as much as a FQHH jacket of the same length.

I did have teamster in FQHH that this replaced, that was a great jacket as well but it was just too big for me. As mentioned the buttons on the teamster were great for keeping the jacket closed when sitting down, just leave the button 1 or 2 undone. Thats the one advantage this has over it BUT the pocket configuration and the storm cuffs vs buttons cuffs is better for a warmer jacket imo. Just make sure you get nice warm lining in the hand warmer pockets.

Thanks Nick. That was my perception too. I believe I recall reading somewhere that the Cheyenne was designed to be an overcoat, whereas the LHB and Teamster were both designed along the same lines, with the LHB zipped and the Teamster buttoned.

When sitting in a vehicle, I generally leave the bottom button of my Teamster unbuttoned for comfort and ease of wear. To do the same function with a LHB would require a two way zipper for relief at the bottom of the jacket.

My LHB in size 38:

P-P = 22.75
Sleeve = 25.5
Length BOC = 27.5
Shoulder = 19

I'm a size 40 and still have room for a sweater/sweatshirt. Not complaining - I love my LHB.

Good point handymike. I suspect that a heavy hide not only has more of a tendency to bunch up at the bottom while sitting but can also place more stress on the zipper to cause separation sooner than with a thinner, softer hide like Vicenza.

No, I really fancy the idea of a LHB in a lighter thread. Maybe a Hercules. To me, the jackets in the lighter skins are almost like completely different designs, they just drape and hang so differently.
Richard, you're probably right, but while I could probably find a way to justify it to myself, I think my other half would have a fit...
