A companion thread to the ugliest!
I'd love to see silly, strange, or just OBNOXIOUS things you think are great from the 1910's through the 1950s.

I'll start off with two of my favorites- both from the late 30s.

Coats with fur sleeves

The frou-frou on the left just...overwhelms.

I'd also like to nominate everything that Rosalind Russell wore in "The Women".

On one hand, it looks like a brain sucking apparatus. On the other.. it's just so fabulous and I want to go back in time and wear it.

Whenever I see a fox wrap I'm reminded of............

YES YES YES!

the more over the top, the better! Some purists have a distaste for my vintage inspired clothing with bats, coffins, and skulls! Well now, aren't they just silly!

Yea, purists don't like my stuff either. I make the cutest 1930s dresses from the most awesome patterns, but I'll make the dress in bat or tattoo material! lol I love it and wear this stuff on a daily basis. It's *me*

you're awesome:cheers1:

haha it's funny to see people get excited that you make vintage, and then crinkle their nose at the fabric. That tattoo fabric is so nice too!

It's ashame there is such a divide. There's a big tattoo divide, too. Horrible, because I think those who do it to a "tee" look pretty fab! We all love vintage -- our different takes on it are what makes it more exciting to me [huh]

Here's something most people will probably find obnoxious, but I make no apologies in loving it:

13938_168598364163_624014163_2831802_6110373_n.jpg

And I own a fur that looks so real it almost scares me a bit  I don't wear it, though. No ocassion to....

I love outfits that get lost in their own frills.

And I'm a sucker for doilies!! lol lol

TOTALLY agree on the Rosalind Russell!! That's my favorite fashion movie of all time!!!

I also must admit that I have a giant white fox stole like the one on the photo you posted...with the head and crystal eyes...and three tails...and i LOVE IT!!!

YES! Everything from The Women!!
I especially love that bathing costume with the GIANT hand brooch holding a rose, and the rose and hand lining. lol

I woke up this morning thinking of more.

I LOVE Souvenier accessories. Nothing like a giant scarf with a state on it- charm bracelets from odd road trips, or pins with dangling bits.

I also love wooden jewelry- either handmade tole painting style brooches or dangling pins with weird colored things coming off of them and nuts hanging from them. *love*

Aw... Amy Jeanne, I'm bummed! I thought you might have some awesome pics to share from your mad stash of movie pics!
I'm kind of right there with you. I love everything obnoxious. And I don't care if you guys make repros in sculls and tattoo fabrics, or whatever- they're AWESOME- and half of the point of sewing is making something you love, so why not?

OH, me too!! Fabulous!
Say, what's the top image from? I had a friend asking me last week if I knew of a movie that had a chorus girl in a clear plastic tea pot. This must have been the one!

I think that;'s from International House? Or maybe they just re0used the costumes? In the book 1930s Glamour Costumes of Hollywood, they show all the costumes in that scenes, and say they are from Inerternational House, but the gal in the right had item (which is supposed to be a fortune cookie) is Ann May Wong, and that isn't AMW.
