Cheers. It's a great way too end the night. If I could just get up the gumption to drag myself outside, I'd add a cigar to the mix. I doubt that will happen though.

If you don't have fourteen pounds
and ten pence, you have nothing
but the light of the penurious moon.

Rita Ann Higgins, Poetry Doesn't Pay

...perhaps not, but I prefer the dolorous Dantean pilgrim Seamus Heaney
in Station Island and the challenge proffer of a spectral Joyce;
all the more sensual for death,

"The main thing is to write
for the joy of it. Cultivate a work-lust
that imagines its haven like your hands at night
dreaming the sun in the sunspot of the breasts."

I continue my chaste pursuit of Philosophy this night. ;)
Any other Night Owls up and about?

And all the time that's passed,
And how different things are now?

Eilean Ni Chuilleanain, Brazen Serpent

Notre Dame fell to Stanford yesterday.
Hardly a surprise, but it still hurts. :(
Busted flush; Boston College next-a coin toss.

Lamp is lit. Simone Weil, a complicated woman and equally so philosopher.
Any other Owls awake at their desk? :)

Stuck watching Cupcake Wars while waiting for the paint to dry on a squadron of model aircraft. (Literally... most of the hotel's cable is in Infomercial Time, and the aircraft I'm working on are 1/700 scale and come 18 to a box... which is a complete typical WWII carrier-based dive- or torpedo-bomber squadron.)

Happiness is... a Hellcat swarm with Corsair, Helldiver and Avenger backup! lol

Now if I could just find my bloody tweezers so I wouldn't have such a fight installing the accursed landing gear... (Each wheel is smaller than a pinhead.)

To fling my arms wide
In some place of the sun,
To whirl and to dance
Til the bright day is done.
Then rest at cool evening
Beneath a tall tree
While night comes gently....

Langston Hughes, Dream Variation

discite virtutum conflictus
et viciorum

learn of virtues the conflicts
and of vices

Lamp lit.
A snippet of 12th Century poetry from Ad Infinitum;
A biography of Latin
by Nicholas Ostler leads tonite.

And the Bears beat the Packers last nite. ;)
Any other Owls on the prowl? :)

Across the margent of the world I fled,
And troubled the gold gateways of the stars,
Smiting for shelter on their clanged bars;
Fretted to dulcet jars
And silvern chatter the pale ports o' the moon.

Francis Thompson, The Hound of Heaven

An opium addict, Thompson recovered at Storrington Monastery in Sussex,
where these lines are believed to have been written. One of my favorite poets.

PhD hack work to Cinderella's hour. Any other night owls flyin? :)

Sorry, just composing a few thoughts on the Boeing 2707, the Concorde and what might have been over in "Favorite Aircraft".

And watching paint dry on a flight of 1/700-scale TBF Avengers. Do you have any idea how much of a pain in the butt it is to get a solid coat of white paint onto clear plastic?

No, but I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to get solid cover during a F4 Phantom air strike. :eek: lol

Ahhh. Bored with books. Feel like raising a little hell. Think I'll call my girlfriend in Czechoslovakia and ask her if she still loves me. lol

Me Irish charm works better in person. lol

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night....

Alfred Lord Tennyson, In Memoriam CV

Back to thesis research.
Lamp lit; java; and Schubert Fantasia; F minor, D 940 :coffee:

Any other owls about?

...whose fusillading heart
Is triggered on a thorn the dark night through...
the nightengale would set
To leave a pyre of roses for the Sun.

R. Campbell, San Juan de la Cruz

Lamp lit and The Abbess of Andalusia opened.
A great light in American letters, Flannery O'Connor, and her spiritual journey.
She is quite unlike any other Southern author. I rate her the most gifted,
and surely the most difficult writer of her generation.

Any other owls flying?
