I thought that I rememered a thread a while back in which people showcased their vintage timepieces. However, after a lot of digging through different area's of the lounge, I couldn't find one.

So, share with us your vintage timepieces. Anything type of clock/watch will do, wether it is a simple day watch, a dressy one, a pocket watch, or even a clock you have hanging on the wall

I was just given this watch as a birthday gift from my Mom and Dad. It belonged to my Great Grandomother, Irma Rosenthal Huterer. My mom has told me that it was given to her before she fled Europe. It is one of the few pieces of jewelery that survivied WWII. I was told by a jeweler that it is from the mid to late 20's, but I'm not sure if that is correct. It is a Le Courur (sp?) with a Swiss movement. It is platinum and has over 50 diamonds. It has thin and double bands made of black cord.
I really love this watch, not only for it's beauty, but also for its history. It means a lot to me that it has survived so long and was handed down to me. I will cherish it forever.

Its LeCoultre. In my opinion a watch of comparable quality to a Rolex and your watch is no exception. Keep it safe. It not only has history but quite a bit of intrinsic value as well. :eusa_clap
I'll have to dig out my old LeCoultre Automatic as well.

Regards,

J

P.S. Take it to a jeweler or watch repair person and get a safety chain placed on that catch or replace the catch with one with a safety chain. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks, Mr. Powers, for the info.
I will definitely get the safety clasp for it. It will be put away, and only worn on special occassions.
My mom did bring it to a watch specialist and have it cleaned. But I still need to bring it to someone for an appraisal for my insurance company.
I'm trying to do some research of my own about it, but I'm not coming up with much.
If anyone else knows anything about it, I'd appreciate your input.
While looking under a magnifying glass, I noticed the word "incabloc" on the bottom of the face, right above the word "swiss". I know swiss is the movement, but can't figure out what incabloc stands for.

Incabloc is a term referring to the end of the balance wheel being captured in a special jeweled process that supposedly made it harder to break if it were to fall or be shocked in a similar way.
In your search, look for Jaeger LeCoultre. You will definitely find more information since that is the new name now.

I'll have to look at the Reverso Grande. ;)

I just looked again under the magnifying glass, and it looks like the name of the watch is Je Courier.
I don't know if this means if this is a totally different brand than the one you mentioned, or if their name was different back then.
What do you think? I'm gonna do a search on this brand name and see what I can find out. Either way, I still love it. I have so few tokens from my family, it wouldn't even bother me if it was a no-name trinket, it's still priceless to me. I just don't want to tell my mom anything I find out about it. I can't believe she just had it sitting in a box in a drawer all of these years, and didn't realize it's value. She might end up wanting it back!

Gee, you have me on that one. I never heard of that name. The name will be on the movement. I would check the movement to see if there is a name on it other than what the face says. Don't do it yourself if you feel uncomfortable about it. Better to have someone do it than have to get it fixed. ;)

Regards,

J

In my search, I've found a very few ladies watches with this particular name. I can't find any company info, and the watches I've found look nothing like the one I have. When I take it for the appraisal, I will have them check the movement. I don't feel comfortable doing that myself.
It's really frustrating, with all the information on the web about so many different things, I can't find anything useful about this watch. Maybe a vintage watch dealer will know more about it than what I can find online.
Thanks for your help though, I do appreciate it.

I actually wrote it wrong. It's Le Courier, not Je. I found a few vintage watch stores that have watches of this brand. But can't find any information about them. One of the watch dealers has an email address. I think I'm going to send him a message with the information on the watch and some of the pictures. Maybe he will know about the brands history and have an idea of it's worth.

Daisy, that is a beautiful watch with a wonderful history. Isn't it a fine feeling to receive a memento like that? It brings a real connect to the past to have a physical object like that in hand. I appreciate it as more than an inanimate object.

I have a couple of nice watches and will post pictures this evening.

That is a lovely watch, and it is alway nice when you know the history of a piece. Especially when it is from your family.

Why thank you MB, Feraud, Baron and Zemke.
It's so pretty, I'd love to wear it everyday. Although it is in incredibly excellent condition and seems very strong, I'm not going to risk damaging or losing it, so it will stay in it's box unless it's a special occassion.

Daisy, that watch is..

as pretty and feminine as you are! In my humble opinion, the true joy of owning it is wearing it so you can enjoy it. Maybe I spent too many years growing up seeing lovely things just "saved for good" in our home; I like to use, wear, and enjoy the lovely items that come my way so I can appreciate them more often!! But that's just me!
