Art's hats are what the old priests in the 60s called "an occasion of sin".

IMHO the priests were right when we look at these wonderful examples of the hatter's ART.

To answer a few questions...

Toobacat, The color in my pictures is just a tad lighter than the real thing. It's pretty close but the real thing is just a bit darker.

Nonentity, I ordered near the end of December and got the hat yesterday. Mind you, Art was able to get it to me that fast in the midst of a storm that took out phones and power and downed over 100 trees on his property! I still have no idea how he could have done that. I told him that I was willing to wait so he could take care of his more pressing issues. Art's the man!
As far as price, they are listed on his site. Most hats in the limited edition series run about $305, the H.S.T. is $355 but it comes with a custom 18K gold pin.

Feltfan, I also have a Victor Monarch, VV-XI, and an Orthophonic that I am about to overhaul the motor and the reproducer. I have a few others but had to stop getting them because I ran out of places to put them! :p

I think that I have to bite the bullet and order a hat from him already. The other night I actually had a dream about ordering one. That has to be a sign!

And, it goes without saying - that's a great hat! Now we just need some pictures of you wearing it.

I was at genphideaux's house yesterday looking at his hats and out of the closet comes the same oval, black hat box you have pictured. I had looked at his Akubras, Stetsons and some Manny hats from Texas first. When the Art Fawcett came out of the box all the others, while very nice, couldn't hold a candle to the Fawcett.

It wasn't my size but that didn't stop me from trying it on. Even at 3/8, it felt really nice on my 1/4 head.

I am now officially saving my pennies for an Art Fawcett masterpiece. He's reblocking my Panama Bob Montecristi as we speak and I'm sure it will be perfect when it gets home.

And that red liner... OH MAH GAWD!!!!

Thats a 23 1/2 closer to 7 1/2 and you never show your hand till the dealings done. Glad you liked it, to me it is a work of Art.

I'll see if I can get one taken tonight - I have martial arts with the kids tonight so it might not happen, but I'll try (knew I should have taken one yesterday:eusa_doh: ).

There is something decidedly "pointy" about the brim. I love it. Very sporty - for a Sportaire.

Ok, here you go. Mind you, I just got back from Karate so I look a bit worse than usual. Oh, and by the way Bassman, you should ask the kids to go easy on me! :)

Sportaire

Mr. Fusion,

It makes sense now why you chose the Sportaire - martial arts and elegance. I thought it would be much lighter in the shade acording to the photos on the VS site.
Anyway it looks great on you and it really combines elegance with being sportsy.

Tom

Sharp hat and a nice background, too.
Makes me want to reach for that Victrola crank.

Some friends and I chipped in to get a friend
a Sportaire (albeit in a custom color) for his 40th
birthday. Also a nice hat. It's a classic model.

Say... I don't have one...

Thanks for the compliments, Tom. I agree on the color, I thought it was going to be lighter as well. Once I contacted Art and he mailed the felt samples to me, then I knew exactly what to expect. I was actually glad it was a bit darker as I think that will help me match it with more outfits. I like it so much at this point I would probably wear it with anything.

Sorry for the ultra casual look in the pictures. I literally took them as soon as I walked in the door last night. My wife hates the pictures.

Say, Feltfan - any pictures of that custom Sportaire?
