Trial and error

I started a thread about "Skinny mustaches" a few months ago:

I started a skinny, aka pencil, mustache a few months ago, for reasons that are not quite clear in my mind even today. I think it had something to do with wanting to look like William Powell. (I have a DVD of a Philo Vance filck with his picture on the cover.) Anyhow, the trimming was very much trial and error. In the days of straight razers I suspect it was much easier to keep the top edge trimmed very finely. Using a Gillette Mach III for the job has been crude but effective. I've been dabbling with the idea of getting a straight razor, but my GF's dad has a really cool French short bladed one that he got when he lived in France after the war, and I'm hoping he'll give it to me. (I'm not going to ask, but I'm hoping he'll read my mind.) The lower edge I've been trimming with a pair of small scissors, every two or three days. But as I said, it's been a process of experimentation.
