Unless I see a full jacket in action and it blew me away. I would go cow or even their goat since it’s their speciality and what Ross Langlitz believed to be the best mc leather. Horse is great and it’s traditional and the main hide of the generation of jackets we all adore and I get it. We’ve all fallen under the horse spell. But I’ve done horse. Not opposed to getting anymore but I want a shearling I want a goat, I want more steer. More colors.

The cowhide in black and solid brown is tanned in New York CXL (and feels it). The colored leather, is more supple, and is tanned in California. I stand by my estimate of 3.75 for the med. weight jacket I received- of course each batch can vary, ala most of our experiences with Aero, Lost World's etc. In addition, Langlitz seems very deliberate in choosing hides for each and every jacket to meet their high standards and consistency.

I love the padding. On both my jackets. You can pay a nominal extra charge for extra foam in the padding if desired; and I did.

Also forgot to mention. If you go with the extra foam for the padding it will make bending arms very challenging at first. I was tempted to forego the extra padding at the elbows for the second but more supple dark brown cowhide but decided to man up again- LOL The regular medium cowhide cxl with extra padding at the elbows was a definite challenge but I ended up doing bicep curls with dumbbells while wearing jacket- job of softening up almost complete.

And that's 3.75 approx. in describing my medium weight cowhide from Langlitz not the horse. I am with most on the issue- up charge not worth it. As I learned from Aero- I like steer better in many respects. Break in and wear look to be spectacular with Aero thick steer.

"Tanned in New York" CXL? What?
Chromexcel (abbreviated CXL) is a Horween trademark. Horween is in Chicago, not New York. Unless I'm mistaken? Do they have an east coast operation?
Horween CXL (to my knowledge) is produced only in Chicago, a mere 2 miles from my front door!

I am pretty sure Langlitz said New York for their regular brown and black. Chrome tanned for sure. And the colored leather was definitely from California.

Our colored cowhide is out of California actually. Same tanning I believe as the other stuff. But the colored hides are far suppler than the standard black and brown, and they lack the hard finish the black and brown get, so I’m not sure how it is in the rain. Probably just fine with the proper applications of our leather dressing.

Lost Worlds claim to own their own tannery, I thought I read somewhere on their website.
CXL is chrome tanned, and then vegetable retanned. But there are plenty of tanners who do chrome tanned and vegetable tanned.

yeah I'd pass on that too. Their cow is great stuff. If they could do it for, say +$100-200 premium, I'd be willing to do it, but that's almost 2x. Can't see it being worth it.
