I think with the plethora of options one can reasonably expect to pay between $2-$2.5K...I believe even the bare bones models are around $1800 or so...

But you have to have the gear to be safe!!!

Agreed.

Mygar, some dumb, little teenager texting is going to almost kill you one day. You'll be glad you have a substantial leather jacket to save you from getting skin grafts.

Too many idiots out there staring at their cell phones so I don't even ride my motorcycle to work anymore. I work in an industrial area so lots of large trucks, semis ect and I would get vaporized if I went head to head with one of those.

I ride on days off, weekends, errands after dinner ect.

Yes i absolutely agree. I would never ride to work... that would be death wish for me. I will ride weekends only... certain roads and at certain times.

I am mapping out areas where i can access the less traveled country/mountain roads...

Yeah its a huge concern in my area

Had a quick chat with them, and seems like I should aim either at the Cascade or the Columbia. They're the most functional riding jackets.
I really like the sidewinder but it's not really a riding jacket, which obviously doesn't take anything away from it.
Requested a catalogue to get started :D
Edit: grammar

I started with a timberline base for my Cafe Racer with Langlitz. The wind flap I had made out of softer goat after struggling with the Aero thick wind flaps while trying to zipper up. Cossack collar. It is the best riding jacket I have ever worn. Do not let the looks fool you. When you supply your dimensions and details the good folks at Langlitz consider small details such as riding position and type of handlebars you have to reach for.. This will be clear as you go over the actual order information they request from you.

They already asked for this detail when I mentioned on that initial phone call that functionality was the priority :)
I ride slightly hunched in front (not full super sport, but sport touring), so they already told me about making the back a bit longer to accommodate this position among other things.
The heavy cowhide is sold, they currently have 3 - 3.5oz now which should be more than good enough.
You ride a roadking if I remember correctly?

I have a Yamaha FZ09 - sport but upright position.
