i have red curly hair, and before November it reached my waist.

I had strangers often come up to me and start stroking it, or playing with it, or whatnot. I often get, "Is that your real color?" And people always always tell me I'm more attractive with straight hair. I straightened it for a week for a play, and it fried my poor hair. My hair stopped obeying the straightener and I had to go get a serious deep conditioning and trim. It was a nightmare, but the amount of compliments I got with straight hair was crazy. But I haven't straightened my hair since, and I won't, either.


And you look handsome with or without a mustache.

I have experienced the same thing with my tattoos. Because I have sleeves of tattoos, some people feel it's an invitation to come up and touch my arms without even asking permission. (it's not)

No one ever comments on my facial hair. I guess that's because it's always changing. I frequently go from full beard, to van dyke, to long goatee, to clean shaven, then back again. About the only thing I never wear is moustache alone. Some people have a face that can pull it off, but it makes me look like a fast-food manager.

I get a lot of unwanted, in-your-face interactions (verbal abuse) and uninvited touching because of my hair and clothes too. I think in my case the assumption seems to be that I must not care very much about my appearance or myself because of the way I look, so I must not mind if people want to impose themselves.

And gosh, my hair breaks because it gets tangled and it's curly... and when I leave it curly, it's a lot less noticeable then when I straighten it. I hate broken hair. I cut it to try to start over, but it's not doing much difference.

I bet that's a chore and a half! My mom's hair is pretty well straight with a bit of wave in the bangs and such, and hers is to her waist. She has much trouble maintaining it because Dad makes her color it, and it takes a beating, always up in a hairnet. She's a mechanic at a Chocolate Factory. She has a hard time keeping up on it, it's always breaking, split ends and what-not, but she only trims the ends, she hasn't had a cut since 1992.

Oh, really? I get threats when I mention dying my hair! It's this shade of red... with gold hints... And yes, it's a handful, my hair. I try to keep it looking nice, but I've found out that no matter how awful it looks, it looks beautiful to other people. It's the only thing people compliment me on! Oh, but I always wanted to have pink hair! Thank you, though. I get that a lot, about the curl... back when it went to my waist, I felt embarrassed when I went to get a deep conditioning (A must-have for my hair) the hairdressers would always get so angry, and say things like, "you have a lot of hair" or, "Jeeze, you have such thick hair" and they didn't say it kindly! I think grey hair is handsome on a man, and I think white hair looks lovely on a woman. I'm all for aging gracefully! I won't dye my hair anyway, it really does just kill it. If straightening it kills it, dying it would trash it. I'm pretty sure it'd all fall out! lol

I get complaints about the thickness of my hair from stylists, too. "You sure do have a LOT of hair..." *grump grump grump* "Well I'll thin it out with layers and then we'll see...." etc.

It got hacked, I mean BUTCHERED to pieces last February by a military haircut (Couldn't cut a straight line, that woman) and its just now putting on some real length. Fortunately my thick crazy hair grows fast, it had been at my ears and is now past my shoulders, but I can't wait until it has real length again.

I only let my mom cut mine, she used to be a hairdresser at her Mom's Salon. She does great work with it, and I've never had a better ducktail, or pompadour. Even tried old school barbers a time or two, just goes to show, nobody can top Mom. Even she says, "you have so much hair!" but it's not bad, it's more of a lucky you, you aren't going to go bald kind of thing.

I've had a beard for about a year, and had some negatives and a lot of positives. But, yes, people do seem to love to comment. I have been compared to:

not exactly uncontroversial characters so whether they are compliments or not??

My wife's Aunt refuses to kiss me or even hug me with a beard, just a handshake now!

Still nice to see other chaps are enjoying growing their beards.

Most importantly, my wife loves my beard.

Doesn't Don Ameche look dreamy with his? After going to the buy vintage garb from Roberto, I asked hubby Chuck about growing one, as its very popular with the slightly older deco gents. I love it on him, he's had a moustache on an off again over the years since we met. The pencil is great for him, but he says its a lot more work.

I wish my husband would grow a small moustache... like Don Ameche..
