My copy of the first editon of ICONS magazine arrived in the mail yesterday. It is nearly a year late but I must say it looks phenomial. A large chunk of the articles are devoted to Bogart and there are many personal pictures. This "Collector's Issue" was sent to charter subscribers and numbered out of 250. Mine is #36. The cover is signed, over an embossed gold sticker, by Bogie and Bacall's son Stephen. He is the president of the company publishing ICONS.

I have yet to really read much of the articles since there are so many (109 pages on thick, glossy paper) but it looks more in-depth than what you would expect from a magazine. I love that they will only cover movies, stars, and Hollywood styles, from the 1920s until 1960. There is even a monthly column devoted to silents.

Hopefully, the next issue will follow soon. The first issue should be on newstands in a few months.

I really was peeved it took so long for publication ( I even kept asking for my money back) but it looks like ICONS may be a welcome companion to CLASSIC STYLE.

The probably sent it to me because I was emailing and calling them every other week demanding my magazine! LOL

Paging through it now and I am really impressed by the photos. There is also an interesting article on NYC's "21" Club.

As of July 19, 2007, I have been to both Borders and Barnes & Noble. Neither store had the magazine. Anyone seen this magazine in the bookstore?

Dagwood,

The copies that have gone out thus far are Special Editions for the initial subscribers. It's not technically the "first issue". The first issue is supposed to go out next month, at which time it should be in the bookstores and on stands. From what ICONS has told me, the first issue will basically contain everything found in the Special Edition, with a few things added.

I jumped on board with this and subscribed way back at the beginning of January. MK received his copy a little while ago, but I have yet to receive mine, even though I subscribed first. [huh] I called them Tuesday and they said my copy was sent out Monday. Still no sign of it in my mailbox (every time I open it I seem to get a magazine and get all excited, only to find GQ or Esquire or something else along those lines). I can't wait to finally see what months of waiting have produced.
