Great find! Many German market hats from this time have English Brand names but this is a real one and of high quality. :) Yes the size would be 7 3/8 US or 59cm.

Yeah, I’m new to all this and my experience is limited... but this felt is something I haven’t really seen or read a description of yet. It’s very fine and even has a soft feel on the skin, but it’s form is actually a bit stiff.. or, better said, firm. It’s pliable and moves around easily, but still has a really solid firmness to it. A bit heart-breaking really. I’m a 57.5 cm and can (so far) make 57s and 58s work nicely... 59cm is a jump.

Just pickup this up, it’s got a sloppy Fedora bash in it but I think it qualifies for the H nation. Moore’s of London from 1959. I love the union stamp under the sweat.... It literally looks and feels like an old postage stamp. I bet there’s a story or explanation there...
I love the look and condition, but I have now learned the hard way on this that England has or had it’s own sizing. If pads under the sweat don’t make this fit, it might be hitting the classified section.

Moores is indeed an English hatter based in Stockport near Manchester and a producer of high quality hats. The way the brim on this one is done makes me wonder if this is really a homburg or more a fedora with an upturned brim. Moores certainly produced homburgs with a more tight treatment of the brim curl. Here are two examples of their hats.

Rehfus Hutfabrikanten / & Cie. "Olympia Extra Quality", Size French Point 5 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably mid to later 1950s. I don't come across many Rehfus hats so was very happy to find this one. The felt is medium weight with a smooth finish and a very smooth hand. Rehfus & Cie / Hutfabrikanten is from the Kehl am Rhein, Germany which is directly across from Strasbourg / Strassburg so probably the reason for using French Point Sizing which is unusual (maybe the only one post WWI) for German Hat Companies.

Harv, Rehfus & Cie. were a very well known German Hat company. Their very light weight Stiff Felt Hats were especially popular up to WWII. The factory didn't start up again until the early 1950s and went of business in 1963. They were located directly across the Rhine river from Strasbourg / Strassburg, France so the South West corner of Germany(originally Baden). I am especially fond of this hat company because it was located very close to my parental roots. My website has more information on Rehfus & Cie.

Echter Borsalino "Gulaela" Export Qualität, French Point Size 6 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably later 1950s. The overall condition is excellence. The medium weight "Pomice/Pumice" color felt is fantastic. It easily dry creases and has an fine hand. I didn't take a photo of the paper label but it doesn't have the vertical "Borsalino" on the left side. "Export Qualität" was added around the mid to later 1950s and "Echter Borsalino" was dropped in the early 1960s. "Export Qualität" remained in use until the mid 1980s but eventually fell out of use after the original Borsalino factory was closed and the company was sold.

...And this one makes number 7! Homburgs are definitely growing on me! Knox Superfine. 3 inch brim ( 2 1/2 out to curl), dark Navy, 5 5/8 crown...(sigh). Still in process of cleaning and reshaping the curl. Widest brim and tallest crown of the ones I own.

I'm a sucker for this rich grey color. It is excellence indeed Steve! Just something about the lines and feel of a Borsalino homburg.

Very nice New Jack! It does have some substantial lines to it. Can't wait to see that dark navy color in the sunshine.

That's a great find, NewJack! These Knox homburgs are substantial hats and make quite a statement. Superb quality and shape to them.
