Maybe you should use a disclaimer for this leather then and explain just that.

Just a thought though, not taking anyone's side here. I can't even tell what's wrong with that stitching and wouldn't mind anything alike on my jackets. However I am also not in the market for your jackets nor anything with comparable pricing. If you charge 2k USD for a jacket, it's not too surprising people look at it closely, if only to justify to themselves why they just spent an average workers monthly salary.

I wish that was true.

Very good post. Well said. Again, all of this and especially the fact that makers feel a need to justify anything to anyone just illustrates what I meant earlier when I said that people don't really know what they're paying so much money for when buying from high-end repro companies. The conviction that a certain maker is the best based simply on the price tag, is utterly wrong and ultimately very harmful. As evidenced by this thread.

These people know what they're doing. Let's leave the macro lenses and OCD's to them and stop pretending we have a first clue about what good stitching is supposed to look like. It's a really shit thing to do, to be perfectly honest. . .

In some countries, it is...

I know I get a lot of remarks every times I change my car and I'm fed up to justify myself even to my friends... It's my money, damn it! So, I certainly won't tell people how much I pay for my Kensington. People can be nasty when talking about money.

For example, in France, it's almost taboo to ask someone's salary.

Discussing salary is certainly taboo but when it comes to goods and services and the associated cost I dare say it's essential for the sake of understanding how A is worth more than B, more precisely why.
I don't think we need to go into again with regard to these particular jackets but to JJ's point, when you charge a premium among premiums the microscope is coming out and it's perfectly justifiable. I would say not doing so is ridiculous.

The first question that comes to mind is whether you fluctuate or are generally stable weight-wise.
I would say I fluctuate some and I'm not sure if it's muscle mass or body fat that makes clothing not fit anymore. I've been strength training on and off and I feel like this has me bouncing between a 40/42.

I'm going to email Mr.Himel and offer to sell him back the jacket. Maybe he will make me another at a discounted price if he takes back my current one. It's in great shape. It's measurements aren't off from a standard 40 either.

Were you sitting on the edge of your current size when you bought the jacket? I'd just cut back on the nice-but-bad stuff. You'd be surprised at the impact of simply reducing your intake can have.
It's mostly tighter in the shoulders than I'd like. I have another jacket with similar measurements but the shoulder size is larger and seems to fit me better.

what is it called when your jacket's shoulders are cut for riding a motorcycle?

Yeah you can't lose weight in your shoulders, and frankly you shouldn't. You've only had it a short time and from my perusing of Himmel's site the jackets seem to be sized very trim. For 2 or 3k hopefully you can negotiate a size swap. If it's totally custom and based off numbers you sent...well that's a bird of another feather. In that case you might need to do a little Christian Bale ala the machinist.

Himel can be aggressive and brash in his speech as is evidenced in his reply here.

^^ Thats why I like him..The guy takes pride in his craft and his name is on the product..why shouldn't he be protective of it.. even to the extent of appearing aggressive.

The truth is that it was patrons of Himmel who noted the flaws in the jacket that has sparked the outcry. They have trained their eye, under Himmels tutelage, to notice such things. You can't go back and complain when the student becomes the master. If you've spent the time to explain to your customer base why you have a superior product and then something comes up that is not perceived by that base as not up to par, it is sour grapes to then declare you are being unfairly treated and your product unfairly scrutinized under a microscope. I am untrained in the Himmel dojo, I stated earlier I would likely overlook the stitching flaws (not near the zipper) at the collar.
I am not trying to offend anyone but I do feel if you draw a line in the sand, it's your reaponsibilty to stand behind it. Perhaps it's all a bit silly. My feeling is, and always has been, that the best jacket is simply the one you wear the most. Regardless of hide, stiches, price, etc.
