As mentioned in the WAYWT thread, I absolutely love the American chrome re veg tan Oak Steerhide. The pictures speak volumes: The color changes like a chameleon, from shades of brown to muddy depending on the sunlight...

The twist in the jacket also gives it an extremely comfortable fit!

I remember seeing this hide in person and preferring it to his horsehide offerings.

In fact, I've had my hands on countless leathers/jackets over the years and three leathers in particular stood out for me: This steerhide from Himel, the Shinki HH uses in my Brakeman from FW and the Sheepskin from the B-6 from Eastman... but as always, this is of course a personal matter.

Does indeed appear to be inspired by a Bates CR. I had one in brown, don’t have a picture of the back but it looked just like the Himel. He did a nice job with the back in particular. I loved this original Bates but it was as a true 42” and too small.
