Got Tiki?

Does anyone "do" Tiki? Do you collect or appreciate the style?
I wanted to Tiki-ize our living room, complete with custom made Tiki idol fireplace but the boss would not have it. So I am left with a mug.

This mug is about 40 years old. Family legend has it my aunt was a waitress next to a Tiki joint in NYC back in the day. When the place closed she acquired the mug.

My Aunt had a wild experience at NYC's now defunct ode to Tiki-dom.....

I am not going to reveal exactly what was added to the backyard last summer but I will get some pictures.
I have several mugs like yours. I even use them. My patio has sort of a hawaiian theme so Tiki works for me. :eusa_clap

My own collection leaves something to be desired but I have always like tike and lounge music. One of my favourite haunts was the New Yorkd Traders Vics in the Plaza Hotel.

I love tiki as well. I don't really collect it though, because I already have enough collections! I'm content with just looking at all the gorgeous stuff in The Book of Tiki. And drinking Singapore Slings.

Out in So Cal there are some consumate Tiki places around. I think there is a shop that is a specialist in Tiki decorations for the restaurant or home if you want to go all out, maybe in Whittier or on Whittier Blvd.

It's called Oceanic Arts and yes it's in Whittier on Whittier Blvd. Well worth a visit.

I love Tiki! I have some repro mugs, an original mug and a Tiki mask from the 50s or 60s that hands next to my bed. I have some low bamboo-seats with leopard-pillows to match and my boyfriend had abig Tiki-poster we put on out wall... No, we´re not sort of fanatic lol

I love tiki! It never was much of a thing here in Norway, though, although Thor Heyerdahsl adventure on a raft to the Polynesia in 1947 spawned some of a interest in polynesian culture.

And now Oslo has got it's first real tiki bar, the Aku-aku Tiki bar. This is inspired by Thor Heyerdahls expedition to the easter islands, and some of the decor is objects borrowed from the Kon Tiki museum. Pretty cool! Take a look.(The text is norwegian, but there are some photoes. )
