German & Austrian Hutmachers

It's probably a step above anything produced in America during the same time period. P. & C. Habig made high quality hats until they went out of business in the late 1980s. It's machine blocked so will not be open crown pliable but still very well made. Borsalino was the last (until the early 1980s) to make high quality soft / pliable dress felt hats.

Some other highlights (that i've found so far)

A 1963 Borsalino Italian rather then German in punti 6 << a bigish hat for once
A 60's Stetson made in Germany (I guessed 60's)
A nice Mayser fedora but I would guess 70's or 80's
A Wegener Royal Bonnie & Clyde Eu 58 , A big hat in size 5" crown and 2 3/4 " Brim ..... maybe not big compared to american hats but compared to all the european short brimmed this really stuck out !

Lots more little lovely's

If anyone is interested in some photos let me know and I will put them up.

Paddy, Thanks for posting! Based on the 150 years quality designation it's 1966 or a bit later. It has some Homburg elements but can also be snapped. This style was fairly popular mid 1950s into the 1960s.

It is indeed ! Just had to do some small keyhole surgery to stretch the fabric so I could read it, the french label threw me completely

I actually found the company.

Kelly's Directory Of Merchants, Manufacturers And Shippers, 1925 edition.

This must have been a factory that was taken over by the workers. I will have to see if I can find out more.

Would it be possible to take photos of the sweatband? At rear and if there is any writing on the sides.

Also on the liner is it Fabrik: Wien, XIV? The reason I ask is this is the district number of Vienna and it changes for the same address. In 1925 it's District XII and 1933 it's District XIII. This should give us a general idea of when the hat was made.

It looks like it's at the point of needing a block and flange. You may want hit it with some heavy steam. Does it have a paper label? Also is the liner stitched or glued?

Stitched , I've been hitting it with some mega steam then trying to semi block it over the hats stretcher not ideal but haven't got blocks. As it won't fit me I'll sell it on after I do my best and let the new owner have there way. A lot of my hats end up in photos rather then on heads at the minute. Amazing what props people want. I'll get a photo of the label for you
