G. B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro probably sold in France

The lining is gone

therefore, not being there the stamp of the shop on the sweatband, I presume it comes from France because I bought it there
c2fl2.jpg

The felt is very soft, almost like velvet and I think there is a modest component of wool

What is very interesting is the shape, with the flat brim raised all over the perimeter and a huge pleated ribbon

For its shape and finish, see the printed logo of the two dogs with the hat in their mouth, it seems to be a product of the 1920s

The paper label is celled and the printed name is Paris, the rest are numbers written in pen or printed. The size seems to be 4 5/2 even if it does not exist in the French size. The internal measurements are 19x15,8 cm. so a 56 cm.

For completeness of information here are the hat measures: the brim measure 6.5 centimeters total and the open crown is 13 cm. the ribbon is 5 cm.
It arrived with a hat box, poor conditions, made in cardboard and metal

Something totally different. Found this sealing stamp in a auction recently. They were used for sealing an envelope and as an advertising piece at the same time. Measures about 2 by 2 1/2 inches. The text translates as: "the travel hat by GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro is lighter than a straw hat".
The way "stroohoed" is spelled dates this as an original stamp, so pre 1936. The double o was dropped in later spelling.

As a bonus. The pics of @Daniele Tanto latest post seem to have disappeared. Thankfully I saved them to my harddrive. Here they are again.

Great stamp! This reminds me, I was recently handling one of the hats I last posted and the liner fell out. Underneath on the felt was a black and white liner patch / sticker of the same Qualita Finissima logo. I’ll have to get a picture of it.

Thanks, Tonio. Interesting about the crown patch underneath the liner. Makes you wonder if they put in the liner later or had the crown patch put in as a back-up in case the liner was taken out.

I have an old JHS Stiff Felt that also has a crown patch under the liner. I discovered it because the liner was loose.

Fantastic find, Tonio. The hat band seems to be a mourning band. Is there another one underneath it perhaps?

Thanks! Can’t tell with certainty. It does look like a mourning band. It’s pretty fitted without much play to it, and no noticeable bumps underneath. Whatever it is, I think it’s there for good.

Our fellow lounger and Italian friend Daniele may have a secret entry to an ancient hoard of GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro hats. And he's willing to share them, bless him. The Italian Postal services seemed to think it was of national cultural importance and took their sweet time to let the package go, but in the end it made it north to me.
GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro lords hat in black. Not exactly a lords hat or a lobbia, but more a soft felt hat with curled overwelt brim edge, but it looks like a lords hat. Brim at a generous 6,5cm and crown at 12cm at the center dent. Unlined but it may have had a liner in the past, because there are no crown patch glue marks to be found. The model is called Paris and the felt is everything you hope a pre-war GB Borsalino to be. Oh, and it has shark gills too. So many thanks to Daniele and his hoard (or his time-machine).

That is a beauty, Stefan. Congrats. G.B. Borsalinos are among the best and definitely a wonderful homage to the hat makers of yore.

Thanks, Steve. They are and I try to add them to the collection whenever I can, but they are rare and others know and want the same thing.
