G.B.Borsalino Fu Lazzaro & C. <1936

Very very happy to share my latest find! This is a 115 year old postcard from March 11, 1903 signed by Giovanni Battista (G.B.) Borsalino to the Martini & Rossi company.

To put the timeframe into perspective, it was just 3 years after the founder Giuseppe Borsalino passed away.

Interesting to see that it is on the original Borsalino company letterhead. "GB Borsalino Fu Lazzaro" did not yet exist at this time, and GB was affiliated with the main company before starting his own.

Great find. These personal things kinda put you in touch with the past.

I'll be getting a closer look at this one. :)

"Hours Concours, San Francisco California 1915" was a recognition of an award from the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) in San Francisco.

GB Borsalino book (I just received yesterday) detailing awards received. I promise to post it sometime soon.

One of the hats in the haul of this friday was this one. Quite the surprise to find this one sitting in the street in front of a market stall in Amsterdam. It was in a bit of a state, but nothing taht would stop me.
GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro homburg in olive/sage colour. Qualitá finissima. Green brim binding and brown ribbon. Brim 5,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. Unlined with a cloth crown partch. made for PJ Remkes, The Hague. Mothing damage on the underside of the brim (bot nowhere else). The pictures are the "before" shots. It received al well deserved naphta bath and came out quite a bit cleaner (but not entirely perfect). No label inside the hat, but a newspaper clipping with a date of 1935.

These are the "after" shots I took today. The weather was brighter; the hat is a bit darker that the pictures suggest. After the naphta bath there was still quite a bit of dirt and grime on the hat, especially around the brim-break area. I managed to get most of that out with an eraser. Very pleasing to see the results. The only thing to suffer a bit was the cloth crown patch.
