Better jacket than mine! congrats! Even hide looks better than Horween CXL, LOL!!!
LOL. We all know about pictures…I’m excited to see it in the flesh! My fears about the fit are gone, I’ll fill it out more than Shawn. Construction and hide look great. As soon as the black is ready, I am too.

I'm still stuck on the suede options he has. Does anyone have advice about picking the Cow Split Suede in Golden Brown vs the Goat Suede Tan color? How would the cow split compare to the goat suede?

I think key with using a hide as thick as that is to size down rather than up tbh. It may be super uncomfortable out of the box, but the break-in will be faster as the leather is worked more when you move. Also, less excess material hanging once it is broken in. It‘s insanely much bulk compared to excess material on a thin hide or cotton and will stand out more as that.

Also, I‘d avoid multi panel designs.. The less seams you got, the less places where like 4 layers of leather are in one spot.. these 1 cm knots will never break in.

I think I will order a very basic work jacket design without side panels, one piece back, one piece fronts, two handwarmer pockets and that‘s it.

The edges are skived so there is no bulk at the seams. Kinda nice compared to Aero because no heavy seams resting on my shoulder bones.

I thought about the no gusset panels construction for better fit too. But I am gonna give it one more try. Heavy leather all around, except the side gusset panels, which will be made in softer goat leather. Like the bike vests that are put together with side laces.

Shawn's leather is not like Horween. Horween hides feels stiff when cold, but they all soften when warm. Shawn's steerhide does not change temper after warming in the sun for an afternoon. It is not stiff but not soft either. It is not the same as Horween CXL, it has almost a spring back feeling to it. Like a leather briefcase or saddle bag.
