Heh, yes... I always think of that song. There's also, BTW, a story of a guy working for British Leyland in the late 70s managing to do the same with a Mini. Had it sitting complete in his garage, but got caught carrying out the bumpers (fenders).... lol

Actually, postwar didn't Volkswagen actually give credit for those people who had paid ahead on their cars? I thought I read that somewhere.

I don't know exactly what they did at that point, tbh - they may well have. Wasn't VW one of the companies that was administered by outside, Allied interests for a long time thereafter? I remember years ago when I studied IP law reading about how the Bayer TM was only returned to Germans several decades later.

RE:VW and the early post-war years, because the factory was in the British occupied zone, they had first dibs on the company. After shopping it around to various British automakers the British government passed, as did the French (who had Dr. Porsche in a French prison designing the Renault 4CV), and the Americans who, via General Motors, owned Opel; likewise Ford gave it a pass as well.

There are a lot of vehicles I`d love to have, but one that stands out simply for sentimental reasons is a 1966 Buick Wildcat Convertible. My dad owned one like this when I was born, I`d love to have one and show up at his house in it one day.

As a motorcycle rider I`d love to get something like this, I`ve always loved the look of a Knucklehead, of couse it would not be a daily rider, but it would be great to ride to shows.

I knew a guy that owned 1953 Panhead that he rode daily for years, he purchased it in the 1970`s it was chopped, he spent the next several years restoring it.

Oh, I have several fantasy bikes, or rather styles. My favoritest favorite, however, are specifically fitted knucklehead bobbers.

My grandpa had a '52 Harley, former police bike. I love looking at the old pictures of him and my grandma on it, back in the fifties. I want the bike, but he sold it to my dad's cousin 30 years ago, and he wants 30 grand for it (after he chopped it up and made it a horrible mess.

It looked quite a bit like this, but with a windshield and it was black and white.

I love GM's concepts. It shows how far ahead they really were, vs what was being put out (more cost-effective models.)

I would like one of the original Straight Eight Dolomites. The one here is a replica. It was a car built and designed by Donald Healey, along the lines of an Alfa Romeo. He was hit by a train on the 1935 Monte Carlo Rally in one of these.

I am in the process with the same chap who built this in starting another replica of sorts. However, mine will only be a 4 cylinder special, as the 6 cylinder engines which this replica has are not very plentiful and the straight 8 engines impossible to find. I have a chassis, engine and running gear, which is the first part of the project. It will always be a special, but, being that the last original sold for 750K, I can not see me owning an original! I am restoring all the mechanical parts and he will produce the body.
