Just yesterday I saw a rack of throat drops made in Boston, England. Otherwise I would have guessed the road sign arrow for New York and Boston were one of those cute jokes we sometimes see.
I always figured there's a YORK in England, as well as a Hampshire, but NEW York too? How about that...

I actually meant more the hairstyles etc, but although clothes rationing would have affected people's wardrobes, actual clothes rationing had ended in March 1949! I do think the War had an effect on how some people consumed clothing though.

Even standard womens magazines of the time would have been showing quite different fashions. It is interesting to see some people either couldn't or wouldn't follow the new fashions.

Here in the States there was a lot of resistance to the New Look -- "who is this Dior guy, and who is he to tell us to wear our skirts like that!" It wouldn't surprise me at all to find that similar ambivalence existed across the pond.

For me, hair and make up are part of the new look. I can´t imagine their clothes in combination with the rather dramatic and somewhat graphic look of Dior.
Here´s a picture I bought some time ago that is dated 1954. It was taken in Germany. It could easily be dated earlier, I think:

I'm pretty sure you would find alot of the city we have here in the US are named after cities in Europe...Unless of course they have Indian (as in american Indian) names... A lot of cities names have also been changed over time over here New York City didn't start out as New York City and such. (Amman, Jordan was once name Philadelphia way before Philadelphia, PA ever exsisted!!)

I know there are at least two cities in the US named Paris (Paris, ME and Paris, TX) and two Romes (Rome, GA and Rome, NY). I myself live near Westminster, CA and I once sold something on eBay to a buyer in Irvine, Scotland, so I mailed it from Irvine, CA! :D

Then, of course, there's also an Ontario, CA.

This isn't everyday, but it's so amusing that I had to post it. Photo from an appliance trade show.

This is flipping awesome. Hilarious, and wow do they look uncomfy.

Oh, incidentally, my avatar over there is a everyday gal. My great aunt Winona- my maternal grandpa's sister- in her swimsuit. Her shoes are cute white wedges. Her hair is great, and she was such a galmour gal. I'm not sure if I ever posted her pic in full before. But I had to crop it for my avatar.
