I can not believe that a Whippet went for 600 bucks. I would love to have a vintage whippet but I will settle with my custom clone that only cost me 140 bucks lol
And I'm overly happy with my $41 whippet... near mint... I can't imagine someone spending so much on one when you could easily get a better version custom made... and brand new...I can not believe that a Whippet went for 600 bucks. OK, at least I'd expect a sweatband for the opening bid.

No Kidding, this one just sold for over $600. Amazing!!! I know beauty and value are all relative, but seriously the Whippets were $10.00 hats. There's nothing special about the felt or construction at all. The Stetson 100s don't even bring that much and their felt really is amazing. There is going to be some serious buyers remorse on this one.

Yes, Whippet prices are insane. Not at all an especially interesting or special hat. You see similar crazes (often driven from this place) on other makes/models, but never quite so long running as the Whippet/Stratoliner/Playboy obsessions … none of them especially high quality hats. And none of them with dimensions or features unavailable or rare in other makes/models. People get fixated, I guess. Especially on Stetson, for whatever reason; a company whose felt after the middle 1930s left a lot to be desired, IMO. beofre that, Stetson felt is truly outstanding. Afterwards … not so much.
Good luck to the sellers though. Even in size 7 they sometimes sell quite well these days.
Here's another that falls into the "Wishful Thinking" (on the part of the seller) category:

Fishing is right.....
Look at this sellers sale history of items sold and most of them have been sold with 'best offer accepted'. Doesn't look like the seller expects to get his listed price. So, just cut his price in half and make an offer. Although this hat may need to have the offer cut more than half.
This seller looks like it could be an experienced old ebayer with a new store....just a feeling.
