Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Fishing is right.....

Look at this sellers sale history of items sold and most of them have been sold with 'best offer accepted'. Doesn't look like the seller expects to get his listed price. So, just cut his price in half and make an offer. Although this hat may need to have the offer cut more than half.

This seller looks like it could be an experienced old ebayer with a new store....just a feeling.

I offered about half that, but they didn't even bother responding. It's a very nice color and style, but I could have a great custom made for 2/3 what they're asking.

It is a size 6 7/8 and I think that's how I am able to score some good deals on e bay due to the size .

Also I use the swoop and grab method in regards to bigging on something at the last second ,picking off the other guy ,keeping the bid low as time runs out before they can rebid , but again bottom line for me is their are alot of hats for me ( I assume ) because of my head size so if I can't get them on the cheap regardless of how good the quality or condition of the hat I won't bid ,I'll just wait till the next right one comes along.

Have a good Thanksgiving and a good day .

You did quite well Frank. :eusa_clap The guy who is able to wear the smaller size hats and clothing generally has it made when it comes to ebay as the competition isn't so fierce. The rest of us that wear the larger sizes typically face high price bid wars. :(

That homburg in a larger size (7 1/4 or larger) would likely have gone for $50-$100 or more should their be a crazy bid frenzy.

Being able to wear small sizes definitely gives one an advantage in the search for vintage. Enjoy your hats!

Tridentine that is the curse of the large melon. I have almost stopped fishing in the bay because 7 1/2 hats go for stupid money. Keep your eyes on the classifieds here or just buy quality items new. I could not be any happier with my new Akubra check em out

Thank you History Teach24.

I actually just put a down payment with Art Fawcetts Vintage Silhouettes.
He just sent me out the measuring device.

I actually have you to thank indirectly, I think, for a beauty of a hat.

I bought your Falcon Park Blue and yellow ribboned Julep fedora from a FL member for 100.00
Warm and soft!
Thank you

Hello Walt , Thanks for confirming what I was already thinking .

I was just reading a few very recent posting's and that's also what other poster's are lamenting ,that the larger sizes's command more cash due to people driving up the price.

I bought this hat awhile ago and it pairs well with this suit so I thought since I posted it another thread ,I would ask what you guys the same question, I paid $20.00 for the hat with shipping.

I then took it to Salmagundi in Boston and for $25.00 then gave it a real good deep steam cleaning and that's all I have had done to it .

Hello everyone. I'm sorry that my first post on the FLounge is a gripe. I'll certainly try not to make a habit of it.

At the moment I have no really nice hats. There's one really beat up wool felt hat that I use for work and a low grade panama. And then I found this beauty on ebay. It was listed as "Lee Blue Label DuPont Water repellant shape retaining."

I did not win this hat. Perfect as it was that it was a Lee and that it had a reverse taper for my oval shaped melon, I lost this item. The bidding had started at $9.99 and I had put my max bid at $90. I left my home for work one half an hour before the bidding ended. At some point during that time, I was outbid by $0.01. If ebay's rules would allow it, I'd hunt this guy down and try to buy it off of him for more. Alas! I think I'll be beating myself up over this one for years. That hat was perfect for me.

Johnny DJ,

Sorry about your loss but you'll find something else you like. Also, you might have lost by more than that but you just don't know it. The winner's max bid could have been more but that was all he needed to win.

Venturing outside my comfort zone

I reeled in this great looking Borsalino from the bay

The leather sweat is what clinched it for me as no one seems to use them any longer.
The icing on the cake? It's a Borso. :D

I cannot seem to find any currently offered Borso newsboys w/ a leather sweat. Anyone know an apx. age? Or how long ago Borsalino stopped using leather for their sweats? [huh]

And if I bought this from YOU, (Yeah- YOU)
thanks allot! :thumb:
