I dont like them

To each their own, of course. I must confess that, for a long time, my beaten-up safari jacket was pretty much my signature item of clothing. Usually with jeans and a normal shirt. Worn rakishly. (I kind of had a rule: only one item of khaki clothing at a time.) But I certainly had a closet full of khaki clothing with lots of pockets. Lord, how I loved the ORIGINAL “Banana Republic” stores before they sold out. Why Did I lean In the safari clothing direction? Maybe To make a statement that, in reality, I was interested in far more than the suburban student/minimum-wage existence that was my lot. I’m sure that I was trying to convey that —despite my geeky circumstances— I was into travel and adventure and intrigue and the golden era and land rovers and Hemingway and Bogart and far horizons. Was it a role play costume? I suppose it was. But everyone puts on a costume every day, saying a wide variety of things. And in my case my life eventually grew into the costume, at least to a small degree (which was enough for me.) So, yes, it was a costume. Perhaps even a silly one. But that old safari jacket also helped buoy me up at times.

Ha ha. I’ve succeeded in giving that old bush jacket more importance than maybe it deserves. :)

"Costume", or "uniform"? I suppose it depends on the wearer's mindset, but I've known people who treated their daily wear as one or the other; "costume" to the goofy types, "uniform" to those who took their "presentation" and demeanor more seriously. My own definition tends to change from day to day, depending on my mood when I wake and/or what I need to accomplish that day.

Just got this used jacket in the mail, ideal mid-weight (not too heavy, not too light/thin), overall a nice garment. However, it's a Large Tall, and the sleeves are 38.5" long, which is waaay too long for me. Sigh. You can buy them brand-new from Midway's website, just don't get the Tall unless you're an NBA player. MidwayUSA 11a.jpg MidwayUSA 11b.jpg MidwayUSA 11e.jpg MidwayUSA 11g.jpg

^ Regarding that MidwayUSA safari jacket, there's the measurements (tagged Large Tall):

chest 25"
length 34"
shoulders (pulled taut) 23"
sleeve 27"
sleeve underarm 19.5"
sleeve (dress shirt) 38.5"

Someone has the same jacket tagged XL Tall listed on eBay right now, and here's their measurements: chest 25" length 33" shoulders ~23" sleeve 27". That's more or less the same measurements as the coat I got. I'm thinking one of these coats must be mis-tagged. Weird.
