"Castoro"

Seems a great hat to me. The "XX" on the sweatband indicate that the felt will be nice, to say the least. Next to that, the hat has a great liner, a nice box, and some original accessories.
Would the hat have been my size, I would happily have paid the price you paid.

I didn't buy it as I did not like the colour. I just wondered what others thought of it.

Looks like a great hat - reminds me of one Marlon Brando wore in The Godfather (his was brown, wasn't it? Been a while...). It's more expensive than any hat I've bought on the bay; my Herbert Johnson for Brooks Brothers was only $40 or so. On the other hand, I take a 57 which is a very common size, and Borsolino is a big name.... plus this is a Borsolino - big name, and having the priginal box adds to it, I suspect. Am I being thick for missing it in the listing, or what type of felt is it likely to be? (i.e. is it beaver?). I expect the larger size gives it a rarity value as well.

Not a bad price...

especially if the provenance is acccurate. Its tough to find new hats made of really good fur felt, so if that on really is vintage, the felt is probably superior to what you'd generally find these days.

On the leather sweataband, the word "Castoro" is printed. That means beaver in Italian. Its a good hat even if it's not 100% beaver. A new homburg goes for a least 210.00 to 300.00 today, so the buyer got a good deal.
