Goose -

Yes PM is enabled. I'm just kidding about the 'two week extension' anyway! I'll keep you posted as to what HD says. Looking forward to the Casual.

Cool beans...but I'm not kidding, if ya don't like it, I'll take it. Figure that's better than my saying, "If you don't like it, I'll eat my hat". Think that was some old smokes commercial I recall seeing as a kid.

Anyway, they should be waking up and getting ready to head into the shop soon. Hopefully you will hear from HD today.
And, "yes, "I" think it's perfectly normal that I have my watch set to their time zone".
I got it bad, real bad....

I'm beginning to understand that 'slightly off kilter' thing you mentioned!

Heard from HD via email this morning. They apologized for the mixup and the Casual is on the way. As far as the 'smokin' deal' goes - the Fedora is mine to keep at no charge.

Awesome!

Wow...that is customer service! Impressive.

Hmmm...I'm hoping that my Hampton and FIVD arrive today. Hope they were packed before the Foster's Lunch. That'd be a hoot if I ended up with "your" Casual, or a CEO...or Homburg :D
Nice to know that HD took care of this for ya ValEag.

Been reading on that very topic last night. I like the Center Dent - your Sydney looks just right to me.

I'll keep you posted . . .

Warning! Contains graphic images (my ugly mug!)

Ok gents - here you go - be gentle! Here is my first feeble attempt at bashing. I played around with this when I got home from work today. This bash is all dry, no water or steam yet. Let me know what you think.

Here are a couple of shots from the front:

And I had to try one Douglas!

And as it came out of the box:

The lapel cord moved up a little bit and is visible in most of those pics. Goose - did you wet your Sydney when you bashed it?

"Grahpic Images" LOL.
Yep, graphically good :eusa_clap

To answer the question, "yes". I use a spray bottle, bash/crease/fold/spindle/mutilate, and pop it on my noggin to air dry.

Looks great ValEag.

And, that "Douglas" is classic. Nice look.

You gettin' used to that Sydney and the off-kilter ribbon?

Yes - very much so. I know it is more of a dress hat, but it is way too comfortable to be used only for that.

Thanks for the input too btw - I thought with all this talk about commenting on photos that everyone was afraid to hurt my feelings!

Yeah, I was gonna tell ya that your jacket collar in the third pic is curled wrong, but I didn't wanna be hurtful...so I won't :)

Casually speaking

An update on my mixup - my Akubra Casual arrived on Monday, 3/2 and was waiting for me when I got home from work.

To recap - I ordered the Casual after Goose's glowing report on 2/10. When it arrived on 2/21 I found that HD had inadvertently shipped an Akubra Fedora by mistake.

I emailed HD and they were very apologetic and assured me the Casual would be shipped right away. They also insisted that I keep the Fedora at no cost. When the Casual arrived yesterday there was also a hand written note on the packing slip apologizing once again for the error.

A big hats off to HD for the customer service on this (or maybe a g'day mate!). This was my first order from them so it's not like they were working with a repeat customer, though I certainly will be now. The Casual made it in 9 days, not 9 business days, but 9 days.

No pics yet of the Casual, but Goose you were right - it is a very comfy hat. The only thing that I noticed is that it wants to rest on the top of my head, but I can hopefully fix that. The bash and looks of the hat are very similar to the pics of my Fedora in this thread. The feel and fit of the Fedora is better of course - these are my first fur felt hats and I see now why everyone has a preference for fur over wool!

Thanks again Goose for the recommendation - and to everyone else for the wealth of information here!

Really glad you like the Casual ValEag.
Yesterday was the first time I put on my Sydney (aka: "Fedora") since I received my Casual. I actually missed the Casual.

Great news on the ship time for you. As for me, today I received my Capricorn that I ordered on 2/19...but still have not received my Federation or Hampton that I received ship notification on 2/13 :(

Hey ValEag...are the colors of your Fedora and Casual the same? My Casual looks close to shade/color of your Fedora.
My Sydney is Charcoal (almost black).

The Casual and the Fedora are not exactly the same color, but very close. The Casual is just a little darker, and has kind of a blue hue to it. The felt on the Fedora looks like it has a nicer finish, especially on the brim.

I'm wondering if I could re-bash the Casual and raise the crease just a bit. Have you changed your Casual? I actually like the fit of the Fedora better. I've wet it a couple of times and worn it until it was dry, and it has held the bash pretty well.

Funny thing - both of these hats arrived on a cold Ohio day - in the teens or colder both times. I tried on both of them before they warmed up good, and both were much too big. After they warmed up, they fit fine or at the most just a little foam needed to tighten them up. Do cold temps make the felt expand?

Here's hoping you get your other two soon.

Yeah, I'm guessing you could re-bash the Casual. Don't see why not...don't think it's made from Playtex memory bra material or whatever. I'll find out soon enuf...mine has been taking a beating and is going to need a touch up.
So I may find out as soon as tomorrow...I'll goof with it a bit and report back.

BECAUSE...after reading your thread VE and wearing my Sydney again today, I thought I'd compare the fit within a few minutes as compared to the "next day". You are so correct, the Casual center dent hits the noggin. My Sydney, while close, doesn't rest on the head.

I like my Sydney better. Not to say that I don't like my Casual. Being a hat-polygamist, each has a love in my heart and place on my head. The Sydney just feels better (thanks for pointing that trait out ValEag :p ).

Hey, dunno about the foam being affected by the temp, but I'm glad the hats fit ya and ya seem to like them.

Post some pics of your Casual when you can :)

Yep, you can bash up the Casual.
Here's mine now.

Only bummer is that heat applied sticker inside leaves a flat area through the crown where it should give a little. This should work out over time.

Rebash

Goose - that looks great. I did change mine a couple of days ago, but basically left the look the same and just raised the crown height in front and back about 1/4" to 3/8" - just enough to get it off the top of my noggin. It is a much better fit for me now, and looks very similar to my Fedora. I have a slight flat spot in the back where the original crease was, but I believe I'll be able to work it out.

BUT, Mr ValEag...are you still liking that Fedora better than your Casual?
Like me liking my Sydney better?

How could you not...you got a great deal on that Fedora ;)
Seriously, I like my Sydney better, but that Casual is right up there and the fact that it's crushable makes it more apt to be on my head when travelling.
Just wondering about your noggin opinion.
