FYI, I placed my order for an A-2 in November last year (I mean, Aero UK), they have yet to charge my card. One fellow member said that they cannot charge us until they start delivering the goods, maybe some kind of law of something in Europe? I have no idea.

Hmmm...
Must be something new. I have around a dozen or so Aero leather jackets and was never required to put anything down. However..all were ordered from Scotland. My credit card was always charged when shipped.

Just a wild guess on my part but if you're buying a jacket off eBay (USA) from AeroUSA they charge shipping since late 2010 (prior to this shipping was free). Some jacket purchasers may not be comfortable forking out $800+shipping when the jacket might take 8 months to deliver. This would provide an option for putting down a deposit and waiting on the jacket without paying shipping. I'm sure the other option that showed up on eBay - pay off your balance - is for those customers that have to pay off the balance on their jackets and need to include the shipping charges.

This gives AeroUSA an opportunity to take a nominal ($200 nominal :)) deposit and not have to double charge shipping. This is also a good way for AeroUSA to use eBay for 100% of transactions even though a particular jacket might not be sold explicitly on eBay (eg a shearling lined custom). I'd be interested in their policies for deposits and such if anyone cares to e-mail AeroUSA. I'd rather not bother him out of sheer curiosity. Cheers all

Just posting info folks. I understand that many businesses don't charge credit cards until items ship.
I've been following Aero on eBay and had not seen this before.

Deposits are all well and good but just be aware that Paypal gives you only a 45 day window for filing any cases. . .and 60 days from time of sale to leave feedback.

And you aren't protected by eBay's coverage either if production runs longer than quoted...

I take this promotion as an attempt to drum up business on the AeroUSA eBay site - up until now you were required to pay for the jacket in full at the time of ordering. As people become aware that it is easy to deal with Scotland directly (and as people learn about unpleasant experiences with AeroUSA) the AeroUSA site risks losing business to the "home office".

Yeah, I'd think he'd have bad feedback, and I doubt Aero would keep him otherwise. He's in a tough spot. They take a long time, and eBay folks are not used to that.
Maybe he needs to better explain on the auction pages.
Let's be careful here when discussing someone's livelihood.

I've known Mark for over ten years. He's been affiliated with Aero longer than that. There's bound to have been some unpleasant experiences during that time(on both sides). Unless something has changed fairly recently..Mark has had a reputation as extremely helpful and going the extra mile for practically everyone. However..make a list of a hundred satisfied customers..then throw in some disatisfied(a few with vague criticism) and the whole new perception can become quite unfair...indeed.

I've ordered from Mark before and from Aero directly. Never had a problem with either.

The one downside with ordering directly from Aero is that when I had a problem with my jacket, I had to pay for the return (50 bucks), plus UPS dinged me twice for customs (50 bucks each time). They should have only charged me for the first time, but they said that Aero labeled the slip wrong, so the only other option was to not take delivery and send it back to Aero.

I don't think the wait times were any different- both longer than the quoted 12 weeks. Because of the problem with shipping the item back and forth to Scotland, I think that I would likely go with Mark again next time.

That is precisely my point - you are unable to provide negative feedback on eBay when things get sidewise because eBay doesn't permit you to leave feedback more than [60/90/120/I forget how many days] from the date the transaction closes. In my case, the coat was delayed well beyond the eBay cut off date (and delivery was at least twice as long as originally promised). Same holds true for paypal claims and your own personal credit card claims - you have no protections after a certain period of time.

I was left unable to leave negative feedback and with no practical legal recourse (sure I could have sued in small claims court - take that to the bank). Now let me be clear - I was not ripped-off. AeroUSA did issue a full refund and they are to be commended for promising that and following through when I made demand.

The company's product is great, I have 2 used coats that I bought on eBay. And my personal experience certainly shows Mark to be an honorable person. But if I decide to buy a new Aero product I will deal directly with Scotland.

I acknowledge as a newbie on this board you have no way of determining whether I'm for real - that's fine. My intention is not to hurt anyone's "livelihood". And I'm not some impulsive have-to-have-it-now eBay buyer (well, maybe not...) - I'm in queue for a Goodwear California Ventura that I've been waiting for patiently for the same period of time (the difference being that John Chapman said upfront that the wait would be X months). But I'm not willing to gloss over a bad experience with AeroUSA.

My bet is that almost every pre-made coat that is sold on the AeroUSA eBay site as an auction represents a negative experience - some may not warrant negative feedback but many do and it cannot be communicated to others.

To be fair to Mark, this happens when Aero has to correct mistakes for jackets ordered from Aero USA as well.

I had to send back my last Aero (ordered from Mark) and I had to eat shipping both ways ($65 each way from my location). I didn't have to pay customs (either way) because my package was marked as "returned goods" or something like that. Mark was the one who told me to send it directly back to Aero (at my expense) instead of sending it back to him.

There is nothing worse than being taken for a large amount of money and/or time.
I know, it's happened to me. But reading your posts here, you seem overly sensitive to the replies. You are not being targeted as some bad guy here. People are trying to help and balance the thread. But if this is how you dealt with Mark, it might be an indicator of why you had this trouble.
I honestly believe hat the months - MONTHS - I'm spend researching, talking, etc. Will help me avoid as many hiccups as possible. But we are talking about custom made jackets here. Have you ever talked with women over their custom bridal gowns? Wow! It's a tough thing to pull off, especially from another continent.
I don't doubt you had some difficulties. I assume my purchase won't be 100% perfect for some reason or another as I'm an OCD, anal-retentive German.
But, in the end, I've not heard of ONE SINGLE INSTANCE of Aero not making good. So, I will confidently make my order in the near future and hope for the best.

You got that from my posts? Wow - my wife chuckled when I said someone described me as overly sensitive! On an unrelated subject - it's a long way from Butte to Pasadena. No Berkeley Pit.

I saw that ebay post also. I just saw it as a way for people to "lay-a-way" an expensive jacket. Not sure ebay is the way to go with this, as he's not really selling anything, but if it works for him it only cost .30 cents or so to try.

Agree with several posters that this is just a way to leave a deposit on an AeroUSA order without having to pay for the entire purchase upfront.. I'm sure Mark did this to address the fact that if you order thru Aero Scotland you can leave your credit card but no money is charged till the jacket is ready to ship.. it's nice leaving $800 + bucks in the bank for an extra couple, three, four months...

By the way, I did order my jacket through Mark and I paid for it upfront but the trade-off at the time was no shipping charges and no custom fees so I was good. I was very pleased with the experience.. to the point made earlier about not being able to leave feedback on ebay after a certain timeframe, well I couldn't leave Mark positive feedback after I got the jacket..
