A Menswear PREDICTION

Nothing earth-shattering, but still ...

I predict that the '30s pointed collar (or something pretty close to it) will make a comeback within the next two or three years. Why? Because we've already had at least five years of the high and wide collar. That cycle is long in the tooth and nearing its end. Time for the shirt industry to convince people to buy entirely new duds ... and the '30s long collar is as far away from the high and wide collar as you can get. Long overdue for a revival, too.

Remember, folks, you heard it here first. I've been right in my predictions before ...

Nah, kids of the future will be wearing their jeans inside out and wearing oversized puffer jackets the pneumatically shrink to the size of the owner.

Robert Zemeckis wouldn't lie to me...:p

Both are long over due for revival too.

Okay, I'll take your point semi-seriously. The Nehru collared jacket has been revived several times ... it's just that you're not an African-American with Luther Vandross tendencies, so you haven't noticed this.

The codpiece hasn't been revived because tight jeans and rolled-up gym socks replaced it. lol

I definitely agree about collars. We've had the same style for what, almost 30 years now?, it's about time for a change.

Does anyone know why there are so few options for collar styles today? There's no variety anymore...

Collars are the most "stand-out" part of a shirt, aside from its color(s). Studies have shown that people can react negatively to a collar that looks different from "the norm." Round collars, for example, turn some folks off. A desire to conform and not make sartorial waves is the motivation behind most dress shirt purchases.

In the '30s and before, the variety of collar styles was astonishing. After World War II, this began to change.

No, they'll stay. (Pun intended)

Please, Carnac the Magnificiant, I need the collar bar. If not a return, I'll settle for a small revival.
