1930's Stetson. I am sure this hat was made no later than 1940. The hat was stretched from a 6 3/4 to a tight 7 1/8. The original liner had to be taken out and the 22 ligne band has been replace with a 19 ligne. band. there is a very slight fade around where the 22 ligne ribbon was before. If you put a 22 ligne ribbon it would be impossible to see. There is a very high percentage of beaver in the hat. The hat is very soft and pliable but has lots of body. Their are no moth nibbles. Their is one slight stain from body oil on the underside of the brim which could easily be cleaned with out a hatter. The hat is in good condition, and great condition for its age. It does not have a squarish crown like the hats from the 40's but has straight sided crown with a more aerodynamic shape. I payed a 115 dollars for this hat. I want to have my other stetson fedora renovated by Optimo which will cost a 115 dollars. I am not looking to make a profit I am just asking to make the bare amount of money to have my favorite hat renovated by Optimo. That is why I am selling this hat, and for this exact price.

color slight grey with hue of blue.
size 7 1/8
No liner
2 5/8 Cavaugh edge
Crown 4 1/2
1 3/4 inch ribbon

Care to elaborate?

P.S.: "Cavanaugh edge" is best i can tell a universal term around these parts for an edge that as been refelted.

The Cavanagh part was pure snark on the spelling disaster in both posts.

As to beaver content, without knowing that the hat is 100% beaver, there's no knowing that it has any greater or lesser amount in the blend - assuming there's any at all. The fact that a hat is pliable does not necessarily mean that it has more beaver in it.

Without some reason for the assertion that the hat is from the 30s, there's nothing about its appearance in the photos that can possibly lead one to conclude that it could not have been made after 1940. A shot of the sweat, a model name, the stitching, or any of the many other details we have all learned to consider when examining a hat might lead one to conclude that the hat is 30s-ish or 40s-ish. Like the statement about beaver content, the one of age looks to be a guess.

I took the hat to Hat Guys in Oakland. Corrie told me there was defiantly a high percentage of beaver. The original sweat was taken out when re sized 3 sizes. because the band had cracked. The original model said Stetson 20 Sovereign. The Crest was a smaller crest than I have seen on my other Stetson's, and was in black and white, with the red and gold being more subdued, and was done in thinner lines and not as bright I recall. I have

I had a Dobb's I once sold as a 30's fedora and found out it was from the 40's. I should of made a better assumption because of how square the crown was and that there was a small welt under the brim that was not visible on top. I have been wrong before.

I asked a gentleman at Decades of Fashion where I bought the fedora at. He said "it is definitely was no later than 1940." I then took it to Hat Guys to have it re-sized Corrie and Ken said it was defiantly from the 1930's. With out a liner I would ask the same questions and be just as skeptical Lefty. Thank you for for having me clarify.:) ;) ;)

Nothing against you or the "Hat Guys", but I would not consider them experts. In fact, there is one guy there, from whose mouth I would not believe a word...I don't remember his name. The owner, the son and this one kid they had working in there were nice, but none were experts by any stretch...

You might consider crossing the bay and going to Fino Fino. I have never been there, but I know Graham from Optimo goes there once a year to size up people for orders. In fact, he was just there if I remember correctly. They might know a thing or two about your hat...maybe.

I wouldn't trust The Hat Guys to tell me anything about vintage hats...

Also sizing up 3 sizes is pretty risky. I sure hope The Hat Guys
didn't do the work.

Just my opinion based on my experience with the Hat Guys,
not with metropd. Could be a great hat.
I don't mean to pile it on. Let's see the liner and hopefully a
photo of the now missing sweat.
