    I have them on my two pairs of 1000 mile boots and my (very experienced) cobbler lightly sanded the soles before gluing. After a year they seem to be holding fine. I like them and have them on most of my leather soled shoes (typically Allen Edmonds).

    A bit off topic but I have always been drawn to the various Scottish tartan styles. I have several clothing items in this style (ties, scarves, jacket linings) but I feel somewhat like a "poseur". I wonder if there were any Italian or Sicilian clans? :)

    Good luck with the surgery and recuperation Art! After years of heavy weight-lifting I may be faced with shoulder surgery someday as well. (As of now, lots of pre- and post-workout stretching along with several warm-up sets and aspirin before bed has fended it off.)
