When I first saw this post I immediately thought of another "White Feather" (but knew he wasn't an aviator):

Sorry for the diversion.
Laughable.
For a just a bit more you can get a custom from Art (or several other makers).................or two Akubras and still have money left over.
Unless we are talking vehicles (cars, motorcycles, etc) six of anything isn't a collection. I have twenty Akubra hats, seventeen felts and three polypropylene.
While I tend to wear my custom VS and Penman hats more often, when I reach for an Akubra it is invariably a Campdraft or a Fed IV.

8F (-13C) air temps this morning, -7F (-21C) wind chill.
God day for my ANJ-4.
This thing is so warm I don't wear it unless air temps are <15 - 20F (-8C)
What is the shoulder (seam-to-seam) measurement?
Also, just to confirm... the 26" back length is from the TOP of the collar to bottom of knits...so approximately 24.5" from bottom of collar? Kelso sells "Short" and "long" sizes as well; perhaps this is a size 48S?
Thanks.
Correct re. the two versions of the Adventurer.
I was always lead to believe that David Morgan is the sole US importer/distributor of Akubras and all stateside vendors have to get their hats from them....which may possibly eliminate the Campdraft since Daveid Morgan does not carry that model...
Definitely these three and the Banjo Paterson. The FED is a great hat but is exclusive the The Hattery (Hats Direct) in Australia - no one else carries it.. The Adventurer is essentially a slightly larger brimmed version of the FED IV and is sold open crown as well so that is an alternative.

I echo these remarks. I own 17 Akubras, several custom felts, and a few vintage fedoras. I am also an avid (sea) kayaker and would never consider wearing a felt hat while paddling. I have a Tilley and a few Outdoor Research Sombreros (all with chin straps) for the water/inclement weather activities.
And in my three favorite felt colors!
This is great news from John. I received my first Penman hat just before the holidays - the "Penman" In Dark Moss (as shown on his website). I have been coveting this hat for some time now and finally bit the bullet. I must say it is everything I imagined...
Easy peasy. Can't imagine bothering or paying someone else to do the same thing.
I do make an allowance for my custom made hats since the "artist" usually has a good eye for what looks good on his creation!
I have goat on my ANJ-4 and find it to be a great material for the facing. A sheepskin jacket like the ANJ-4 is bit bulky at times and, especially in cold weather, horsehide will be quite a bit stiffer than goat.
