Philipp: it will fit you nicely, don't worry. The sleeves seem to be wrinkled enough as they are, so I can't imagine them shorten by too much. Also, you seem like a tall/slim guy, and pilots like you wore their sleeves like you do. Think about it this way: they didn't size up and let the jacket...
Welcome to the club! The sleeves will get 0.5-1 inch shorter as a rule of thumb, but as far as I see you have some spare room in the shoulders that will prevent them riding up, so it's going to be OK ;)
I can't recommend the AVI G-1 enough, best jacket purchase of my life. The knits ARE darker and also thicker. If you don't worry about accuracy, they're fine, and sturdy. If you do, you can easily have them replaced - like I'm doing.
Hi,
It doesn't look like a badly constructed jacket, but its proportions are a bit wrong - e.g. the pockets appear to be too large. The collar seems to be a bit strange too, and the epaulet is rather wide. It will come down to the fit, as long as you are not a stitch counter, and it may end up...
@CBI : yes they are, but I want to patch it, which I'd never do with an original. The sizing is also a hit or miss, but with AVI I could order different sizes and choose. And also, it's new, it has nothing to fix, it's not dirty, and it doesn't smell funny.
Yes! The 42 has as much room in the torso as my size 40 Star a2. The 40 had none, and there were some strange stress wrinkles accross the back too. Not uncomfortable but the 42 fits better.
@Big J, had you been wearing your Rolling Stones T-shirt, he would have asked you "Are you trying to fool people pretending you're in the Rolling Stones?!" :D
Because at the end of the day we're wearing these for the same reason: because we admire the men who wore these jackets "for real". OK...
Man, I really don't know. All 3 look nice. If I HAD to choose, I'd say go for the 44. The back of the 46 is protruding a bit, and it suggests there is too much extra room. There is almost no blousing on the 42, and there needs to be some, IMO. But at the end of the day it's up to you. How do you...
Deacon, thank you so much for this detailed answer! That was exactly what I'm looking for, and more. Extremely helpful.
I like your logic saying he would have had his squadron patch on the chest, and later when he climbed up that ladder would he sew on more patches - this would make me go for...
Thanks Big J! I've also looked hundreds of photos, and my No.3 option seems to match both the movie (Owen's flight suit), and some real life pictures from 1979-80.
I've also found pictures with the squadron patch being worn on the chest, which IMO looks a bit better. (No.1). So that's the...
