What about jackets with knit cuffs? I have a G-1 that tunnels quite a bit, less than 1 inch of the cuff is visible. I also have an A-2 that doesn't tunnel, maybe wrinkles a bit, and ends 1 inch past my wristbone. I prefer the latter, even though it rides up a bit when driving as opposed to my...
I once bought an A-2 that was slightly too large. Sent it back because there was too much leather in the way as you say. Yours isn't so bad, some people in WWII worn them even larger. Then again, it's up to you what fit you wanna go for. I prefer trimmer jackets but that's subjective. What is...
The zipper is a repro Talon. The color is not as turquoise as on the fit pics, more like the one where the label is visible. This photo taken outside does more justice:
I know, one can buy an original MA-1 on Ebay at a decent price. I didn't want to, due to it being hard to be sure of the size, no returns, dirty, sweaty, knits needing replacement, etc...I wanted my own jacket. Some would disagree, but let's move forward to the review.
I had a "mall" Alpha...
Took my ELC Star flying yesterday. Worn with a nomex suit, EpicMilitaria service shoes, SoF kit bag and a QMI A-3 cap. Unfortunately that red nose thing behind me ain't a 'stang :D
Don't soak it, it may improve things, but I might as well just ruin the leather, or make it shrink. Just wear the shit out of it, sleep in it, move around in it. It'll do the job.
I'm happy to inform you all that this project is now completed :)
The knits were updated with those I bought from Larry. The difference is night and day. They are so much softer, but still sturdy. Because they are more pliable, there is no resistance to push the sleeves back up like with the...
If you go for an AVI, a size 42 will fit you perfectly. That's the one I have. I have a chest size of 39-40, I'm 6 feet 1/2 inch tall, and weigh 74 kg, and I have some sleeve length to spare still.
As for ELC vs BK: ELC is more expensive, but you'll be 100% satisfied with the hide and quality. I've read some very negative reviews of BK's horsehide lately - then again, there are some positive ones too. Also, keep in mind that ELC accepts returns, whereas BK doesn't ,as far as I know. o if...
Some points I'd like to share from my own experience:
1) Eastman A-2 are the bee's knees. If you buy one, go for the original contracts. The Star Sportswear is quite a trim fitting one, that's what I have too.
2) If you don't want to go for an original contract, I wouldn't buy from such...
I see your point, but you'll always like one jacket better than the other one. And then, why not keep only that one? Of course one can play around with the definition of "interchangeable" - Is it OK to have a sheepskin jacket and an A-2? They're meant for different temperatures. But then, why...
There are more expensive things to collect though...I'm a member of an acoustic guitar forum, where a lot of the members have 5-10 guitars each worth well over a thousand buck, sometimes 2-3000.
I've never been a collector in this sense. I'm more like do your research, find the ONE, and use the...
I hear both are creme de la creme. I only have experience with ELC and I can wholeheartedly recommend them. I'd choose ELC over BK, here's why: there's more info about measurements of ELC jackets, more fit pics, etc...that will help you choose the contract/ size. Also, ELC sometimes has a popup...
1) "that cheap knock off bunch" produces pretty good stuff for the money. They're no ELC, but you'd be surprised how good their products are. I own an AVI G-1, and it's not too far from some high-end G-1s I've tried.
2) The ones that are available on Ebay at 1/3rd the price, are not AVI. They...
