I'm not sure if I've posted this earlier, but I've found some panamas on the bay and I've also had a mixed bag. Of course, I purchased low weave counts due to Undertow=no money but I did receive a GREAT hat from one seller for only about $39 and one not so great (but still okay) for about $42...
Not only am I going to run out and buy some bibsuits, but I'm investing in expensive designer shorts, socks and wingtips. I won't even buy leather wingtips, just the vinyl ones.
I'm going to be so professional this Friday...:D
Here are some images of old Des Moines:
This is Downtown Des Moines, 1940
This is in front of the Des Moines River, 1940
Here are some cars on Locust Ave. 1940. The large domed building in the background is our state capitol, one of the coolest in the Union, I might add.
I...
Ha, you know, at first I'd have to agree with you, it used to drive me mad to see someone wearing a tie and dinner jacket. Good god!
But I saw a wedding party with some very dandy gentleman wearing the necktie and dinner jacket combo and it was wonderful.
They pulled it off very well. I...
I certainly hope you're able to find someone that can fix them. Perhaps try taking them into a regular old watch store, or an antique person, someone that may not turn up their nose. I've been in your shoes a few times with some old things of mine that held sentimental value. Of course, no one...
DON'T CUT IT!
I have had a similar experience with a good pair of shoes I owned. If it's a very small flap, or even a moderately sized flap, take it into a cobbler and they can put glue underneath and on top.
I know you might think this will affect the shine, but it doesn't. At least it...
In Des Moines, we don't really have people dressing well. Rarely, I may catch an executive in a suit and tie, and yes, people do stare out of fascination. They probably wonder who the guy is, what he's doing, etc.
I can honestly say that when I'm dressed well, I am treated well; much better...
Personally, this is one of those hats I'd have to see on my own head first before I knew if I liked it. It looks cool, the idea is neat, but I'm not sure my face would be right with it above deck.
Good God! Whatever your do, finish building the outfit!
I'm not sure how the local constable would react to a young man prancing through the streets in nothing but an ugly hat!
Oh blast!
I can't believe I didn't see that. Are we all just blind?
Or was this some secret auction to throw us all off?
Because I could have sworn I'd recently checked vintage on the bay...
Honestly...
I don't really mind notch lapels.
I like peak, I think they look nice, but it's 6 of one and half dozen of another to me. If you look great in your dinner jacket, the lapels shouldn't matter. If you can pull off a strange frilly shirt, and look smashing, hey, you're a better...
Excellent advise!
I know it may be "wrong" but I like to use a cotton square for use in the occasional emergency mishap. I already carry a cotton handkerchief for just such a cause, but one never knows when a young lady in distress would like an additional remedy!
