Bing Crosby sang a song titled There Will Be a Hot Time in the Town of Berlin with those very lyrics. I'm listening to it right now, in fact (synchronicity anyone? lol)

How well do suits clean up?

Artemis Entreri, The fabric is quite important on how you care for the suit. To be on the safe side, and if it truly is a poly/wool blend, you should take it to a reputable dry cleaner (in fact, find someone who you can develop an ongoing relationship). A good dry cleaner should be able to...

Religion was an aspect I was politely trying to avoid, but now that Foofoogal brings it up, it begs the question how important religious dogma/philosophy/morals play in American society and in this discussion. Perhaps religion is the deciding variable, above and beyond society's...

I'm certain America wasn't as involved in WWI as they were in WWII - but couldn't one argue that the same thing occured in both generations? Namely, a militarized population comes home, lives a relatively rigid life, the kids go berserk and become philistines, ruin it all for everyone, we...

Sorry if I implied that I took the MST3k movies as historical sources (including the movies they were lampooning). I was just using them as a segue for musing on the possiblity that a relatively rigid code of conduct (relative to today's code of conduct) may have been a result of things such as...

Pompidou, I've seen many of those films (I'm a big MST3k fan), and after reading your post, I wonder if there is a simple reason for the way those films paint "society". Imagine post WWII when 18 year old boys returned to the farm as 20 year old men who had witnessed the savage, brutal...

So far I've seen 3 topics that would need to be addressed: 1. An individual's self-presentation (grooming) 2. An individual addresses others 3. An individual's role in society Any others? Fletch, do you have any topics you believe should be addressed? Any specific manner in addressing them?

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Sword of the Beast (1965). Very much typical to its genre, Sword of the Beast was enjoyable but flawed. Lasting just under 1.5 hours, the characters are not fully fleshed, the plot slightly disjointed and the ending scene a little rushed.

As PrairieSunrise mentioned, you can substitute Crisco, or even pure vegetable oil, which is typically 100% soy.

Do you look like a past relative and get negative comments for it from family?

If I can get a hold of some pictures, I will post them. My family has always said I look very much like my maternal grandfather when he was young. I'm just bigger, lol .

Fletch, Lizzie, Others: what topics would be covered in a book/essay about the WHY of discipline, as opposed to the "Because we say so"? e.g. Why to dress relatively well? Why to address authority figures by proper titles? Why to avoid the pitfalls of hedonism? etc

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

An older friend of mine (a vintage sort of guy) once gave me some advice: if you don't shower, shave and comb your hair every day, you're a bum. And if you can't iron your shirt and polish your shoes, you're not fit to be employed. I think he was trying to tell me something! lol

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

None of my local shops seem to carry the "old" stuff. I'll probably have to go hunting at the gas station. I guess its kinda like none of my local Sears, Penney's or Younkers carrying cotton dress shirts. Oh sure, you can get plenty 60/40 polyester/cotton blends...

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

This is how my lady handles the bathing issue. She insists on showering every day, often twice. She also brushes and rinses her mouth twice or three times a day. I admit, it's nice having a clean significant other! ;) Thank god I'm not the only one with this problem! Ever since they changed...

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

In Satan Speaks!, Anton LaVey mused that he didn't bathe at all. He claimed that he washed the parts of his anatomy that required washing one at a time, and only when necessary. Thus, he might wash his legs one night, and his feet another, his hair the next and a week later, his chest. He said...
