I have an older Crosley Bluebird replica, the sound leaves a lot to be desired, personally, I'd go with a rebuilt vintage radio, tubes are seldom an issue, as my 1940 Zenith console is still running on the original 1940 Zenith tubes.
Better turntables for 78s than the Crosley's...

As has been said $500.00 is very steep for that machine in the condition you describe, I'd keep looking, there are plenty of nice machines out there.
Some good antique phono resource...
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Art, it's amazing how animals add so much to our lives, they truly are wonderful friends that live forever in our hearts.
I would have preferred they used a fantasy design along the lines of the Crimson Skies type fantasy aircraft, Or the old Bill Barnes series, rather than a P-40. (Personally I'm tired of shark mouthed P-40's)

Ouch!....That was a nice looking suit, I remember Mosk's shop ( the name on the label) in downtown Houston, when I was a kid, I believe they were in business for quite a longtime. Back when people went to downtown Houston to shop.
Needs a Nik-Nik shirt.:D
I had one like that back when I was a teenager in 1976, along with a light tan one........And yes, I've burned all the photos.;)
A little blast from Aurora's past. (Circa 1950s)
The Monster kits are rare, but there are a number of Aurora kit's that even harder to find, such as the first Brooklyn, U-Ma-Kits.
